Re: Protein was diabetes
Nick Gonazalez, M.D. in NYC is highly regarded in alternative medical
practice for pancreatic and other cancer treatment. He uses both
vegetarian and high red meat diets for treatment.
http://www.dr-gonzalez.com/treatment.htm
See Myth #11. Basically, as you age your ability to digest meat may
be reduced. In diabetics, it's likely to be reduced, so one takes
enzymes and related digestive aids. The other myths refute all
vegetarian propaganda.

Re: Protein was diabetes
Luise,
What's the soy scoop in Germany/Europe? It's the poster food for "healthy" eating in the USA, but there is SO much negative research about it, http://www.mercola.com/article/soy/index.htm. One article described how the soy industry had to figure out how to process it so people wouldn't die from it, there's some toxin in it, and then market it!
I don't use much, but soy milk tastes great and soy flour is an OK wheat flour sub, both are low carb.

Re: Protein was diabetes
why not use other flours; ie, chick pea or millet. people around the world
make flours from all kinds of grains.
presumably soy products are only healthful when fermented--soy sauce, miso,
tempeh, nato. it is unfortunate that people in the usa have gotten addicted to the
idea that soy is the protein of choice if you don't want meats or dairy. rice and beans
and veggies do it for me most times. but i must admit that once in awhile i like something
a bit more crunchy/chewy and tempeh works.
i have a question, since we are on diet. does anyone have a take on seitan? i have
searched out information and find oodles on how to make it and how to cook it, but
nothing on the health aspects of it other than to mention the high protein content.

Re: Protein was diabetes
I read a book years ago about a hindu man who had a malady of being extremely
hot inside his body. Nothing he tried helped. after a couple of years more or
less he had a dream about meat. He was a vegetarian. So he tried it...and the
heat was almost immediately relieved. It was supposedly overactive kundalini.

Hi Susan,
I do not know about Europe outside of Germany.
In Germany it does not seem to be any issue, one way or other.
It's the poster food for
Not here, that I know of. Soy products are available in the
supermarkets, and that is about the size of it. (As far as I am aware)
but there is SO much negativeresearch
It seems that, surprisingly enough:-), this has not yet swapped over
to Germany. I have not read anything on the homeopathy lists (others I
have not been subscribing to) about any detrimental effects. But as I
have said: I have for a long time now not been interested in the
nutrition scene.
One article described
This seems odd, since afaik tofu has been part of Chines diet. But
then, I may be wrong in that. Or maybe you mean the processing of soy
flour? Hmm - soy beans are sold -- and actually German laws on what
may be sold and what not are pretty strict.
there's some toxin in it, and then market it!
No idea.
I myself use some for meat substitute. It can be made and is made to
taste like ground beef and sausages etc - which is nice for veggies
and people like me who do eat meant only once in a while.
Regards
Luise

Re: Protein was diabetes
a quick google search brings up the following perpsectives.
eu codex encourages gmo agriculture
brazil has issued a statement about developing new marketing strategies
to sell their gmo soy to europe
ukraine working toward banning gmo soy imports. they import 78,000+ tons/year
client states of brazil are demanding better certification for non-gmo soy.
roumania bought gm soy seeds a decade ago and were the biggest european
grower at that time.
there have been annual conferences attempting to create an eu ban on gmo's
--not yet successful
so this is a range of events regarding europe and gmo's.
the people don't want them but agribusiness does.
but this tells us there is a strong consciousness operating, not so much about
the health of soy, but definitely the issue of gmo soy

Re: Protein was diabetes
Hi Tanya,
Yes, so far there is little gmo food in Germany (mostly canned
corn)and it state on the outside label of cans etc. that it is gmo.
Our super Secretary of Health is trying to loosen things up - but
there is a lot of fighting going on against it. I do hope the fight
will be successful.

Re: Protein was diabetes
yes, i hope for your success, too.
a success against gm in germany will go a long
way to paving similar successes in other european
countries, including russia. and that will definitely
impact the american continents.
the question is how we will survive the onslaught in
the meanwhile

Soy damages the immune system in the same direction as vaccines (Th-2
skewing) thus predisposing chronic disease - and that's the main
reason I do not go near it.

Re: Protein was diabetes
Hi Irene,
I wonder whether there's been any specific testing to see whether
sprouting or fermenting eliminate that problem (skewing the immune
system)? It makes such a very big change in the way that soy digests
and "feels", I'd be surprised if it doesn't help from that standpoint
too--e.g. beans sprouted before cooking; miso?
