Re: Synovial cyst (lumbar) operation

Post by Rochelle »

I have just had a call from a former patient who wants remedies for her synovial cyst removal next week. I have just got back to her and asked if she can find out if she is having a joint fusion with it to prevent any reoccurrence because if that is the case I will give her Symphytum 6 to take for a few weeks.
Has anyone had experience of this op with or without the joint fusion.
I am planning the usual Arnica before and after, Calendula to heal the wound and Phos as she is always sick (vomiting) after general anaesthesia. I was wondering about Staph if it is going to be sliced out!!
Any comments much appreciated as usual.

Synovial cyst (lumbar) operation

Post by Jayney Goddard »

Consider hypericum too. Have seen it work well at circa 200c (depending upon patient of course) post operatively.

Hi,
I would avoid giving Arnica preop.

Hi,
It may be an urban rumour but I have heard of a case with massive bleeding during surgery which was related to the fact of having taken Arnica 200 the previous day.
So, just in case I dont do it-:)

Hi Rochelle, Marco,

no urban legend. I've seen it twice.

May not happen often, perhaps only in predisposed patients. Perhaps
influenced by previous medicamentation, gender (both were female), or
whatever.

Best,

Gaby

I always give 1 x 30C on the way down to theatre and personally I would reckon that the massive bleed during surgery was more a case of surgeon error!! It would have been a good excuse to blame the Arnica :-)

Just spoken to the person who said they are going to remove the cyst and then shave a bit of the bone away. Now this is an option I couldn't find on the web. She is also being kept in the hospital for 5 days which surprises me as well. Does anyone know anything about this operation?
