Re: How to learn the Boenninghausen repertory and method
Hi Tanya,
But as I think Chris is tacitly pointing out, the problem with Radar using the old Indian Boenninghausen for its rep is they are not providing the best source possible. They can offer it for less money, but I am not sure that it is a good trade off.
People like me don't know much about the Boenninghausen method, and we are easily persuaded to settle for a lesser authority.
Best,
Ellen

Dear Chris,
I am trying to imagine you repping every cases by hand, and I am overwhelmed. That's how everyone did it, but because I am used to the computer, I would rep it in a very messy way. Pulling up this rubric and that one, comparing them ... I am sure you are more efficient.
Do you eliminate rubrics early in your repping by choosing two "Genius Symptom" for the case and only including the remedies in the "crossed" rubric? That is, by elimination so that the hand work is not so overwhelming. I am a bit dyslexic so a chart with many little abbreviations in always leads to mistakes. I would make a very poor accountant. I guess I should get some big sheets of graph paper and a ruler and just toe the line. My eyes don't follow the graph paper lines very well.
I have never heard the term Genius Symptom. Are these the big general symptoms by Boenninghausen? Or are they simply the most central symptoms that express the generalities of the case.
Best,
Ellen

Re: How to learn the Boenninghausen repertory and method
Hi all,
Below is the reply by Kim Elia's (president of Radar) to the question which version of Boenninghausen is being used with Radar? It seems that my assumption that a cheap Indian edition is used is wrong. (Terrible character trait: always assume the worst). It is going to be interesting to compare rubrics. This makes me wish I had the version edited by Dimitriadis. Comparison is a great way to study. I'll compare it to the Timothy Allen's version.
Now I wonder which version of Boger-Boenninghausen was used??? I just raced through the Radar version and don't see references to the Boenninghausen Pocketbook. Each remedy is referenced for its original source. Maybe this is not so through??? I thought B-B was a development from the Boenninghausen Pocket book. Am I missing something? Shouldn't some of the rubrics come straight out of the Pocketbook?
I'll wait for a reply before I ask Kim a dumb question.
Best,
Ellen

Hi Ellen,
I hope this email finds you well. The repertory we use is the 1846 Boenninghausen Therapeutic Pocket Book, which was translated from the original German by Peter Vint, who translated Clarke's Dictionary from German into English and is one of the foremost homeopathic scholars as well as a native German speaker with familiarity in the old German language of Hahnemann's day. Below is an article about the version we use.

You have to see Irene's descriptions of the Pulsatilla cat and the Phos cat. They are such a scream. I think I will never be the same about the way I perceive cats. I have just seen hints of her cat constitutions through email.

Ellen

Hello Michel,
Can you give some concrete examples of how the translator has misunderstood
the meanings of the TTB rubrics?
Many thanks,
Chris Gillen

I too look forward to Michel’s reply re examples.
However in the meantime, here is a link to an article about the translation in the Radar program.

Re: How to learn the Boenninghausen repertory and method
that is why we have numerous sources to chose from. our use of reperatories
allows us to make those individual choices based on what works for each of us.
i am always interested in how people on this list will produce a rubric that others
of us do not have in our books. this just happened for me this past week.
i think if this happens often enough for me and it seems that a particular book can
provide more usable information, then i would invest in that resource.

As Irene herself has said tho, homeopathy is homeopathy, no matter if it's for a human, cat, or tree. Why use anything but homeopathic standards, in these books? Any other perception may be skewed.
