Yikes, and now it's all been trimmed away...
I was trying to *remember* what the article might have said about VF,
and couldn't remember any--can you recall the quote, by any chance?
(pvt) Can a Naturopathic be a homeopath?

Hi Shannon
Here it is:
Look to the Best
- On the other hand, I think it is dangerous to repeatedly see
people
in a pathological light. In the Organon of Medicine, Hahnemann
initially
talked about the incredible healing and positive power of the vital
force. I
believe that, like osteopaths, he too had an awe and respect for this
vital
force. As many religious traditions state, if we look to what is best
in the
person we can link with their vital force and people will heal. If we
sense
what moves them and their core of genius - where their heroism,
courage,
tenderness, and concern lie - then we will know them. Then, we will
find the
remedies that most reflect the deepest part of our patients, and they
will
heal."

Luise

I like what she wrote about looking to "what is best in the person, ...
their core of genius"--as part of identifying the needed remedy. And
to me, this is a big part of what was so interesting in that article.
As I said, it would have been easy to dismiss her "courage" etc. as
simply healthy (and I don't dispute that it is that!), and miss the
fact that it is also *exaggerated* (the speaker mentions how this could
*possibly* lead one to do things that might be safer to leave undone; I
am not going to call that pathology, but it is under the definition of
SRP (strange, rare, and peculiar) or PQRS (I forget what that stands
for? same meaning), which figures so *highly* in Hahnemann's
instructions about what to prescribe on.
Same can be said about the "friendliness" of phosphorus and numberous
other characteristics, which some homeopaths will not prescribe on,
preferring to make sure they are using "pathology only." It was not
and is not my intention (or interest) to argue that point, but only to
share this example of a slightly different viewpoint.
Thanks for the "tour"!

Re: (pvt) Can a Naturopathic be a homeopath?
Hi Shannon,
This is one of Hahnemann's hypotheses. Another one is different: the
remedy itself will act on the "dynamic pathology ", remove it by its
similarity. Then a "remedy-illness" remains, which is so light that it
fades by itself. The VF has nothing to do but to do a bit of
cleaning up after that. - Both hyotheses are in the Organon.
Sure. As I emphasised again in my post, my reply was just on the last
sentence of the paragraph I quoted. The rest of this paragraph was
just for background.
I have no issue with anything else whe wrote. I may not agree with
parts, but this is ok.
Well, it is a hypothesis that this aspect of ginseng made it the
simillimum. It is very well possible. There are so many approaches
that work - I would never say or think that what she said is not one
of them. I have no idea whether homeopathy works on pathology only.
Even, if it does: no-one knows where pathology and/or what it
involves.
I am not going to call that
Here once again I have to disagree - but I have given up on arguing
this point. This only applies to what H. said about it!!. I myself go
very strongly for a far wider interpretation of SRP - that's what I
first look for. This is one of the things where I say: I think that
way, but H. did not say so:-) But to repeat - I will not again argue
that point, have done it too often without anyone even bothering to
answer.
I would not have any problem describing on the friendliness of
phosphorus (taking up your example) if I had the slightest idea where
this idea derives from - certainly not from the provings;-) The same
goes for the characteristics of other remedies. From my famililarity
with TCM, where ginseng is one of the great remedies, I am even pretty
leery about the courage part the lecturer discussed. And as far as the
proving goes, here are the mind symptoms from the provings:
************
MIND. # Emotional. # Mood quiet and contented, with good courage
(after two hours), [2]. # Anxiety after dinner (first day), [4]. #
Mind generally calm; still there are impatient impulses and fear of
accidents, with, at times, disposition to weep, or to be anxious about
the future, [1]. # Intellectual. # Not inclined to thought or business
(eleventh day), [2]. # Difficulty in thinking, [1]. # Forgetfulness,
[1]. # Memory weak; things that have just taken place are forgotten
(eleventh day), [2].
*********
Judging from its use in TCM, the following part of the provings seems
more relevant generally and possibly to the case:
**********
GENERAL SYMPTOMS. # Objective. # Strength increased so as to bear
labor better, [5]. [360.] # All feeling of fatigue removed, in an hour
after taking, when so fatigued and wearied as to be scarce able to sit
on horse-back, [5]
*********
This is what one would expect from ginseng in TCM. Of course one is
apt to have more courage when we are strong than in our weak phases.
So courage may point to relative strength and this again may point to
ginseng. This together with its general usefulness in rheumatic
complaints, as shown in Boericke:
*********************
GINSENG QUINQUEFOLIUM
Aralia Quinquefolia-Wild Ginseng-Panax
(GINSENG)
Said to be a stimulant to the secretory glands, especially salivary.
Acts on the lower part of the spinal cord. Lumbago, sciatica, and
rheumatism. Paralytic weakness. Hiccough. Skin symptoms, itching
pimples on neck and chest.
**********
Where "lumbago, sciatica and rheumatism" are the only symptoms in the
second degree.
Interesting: I wonder why ginseng is so poorly known as a remedy for
those pathological states. Comparing it in Boericke with one of the
probably most-used remedies for them, i. e. Rhus tox, ginseng seems to
be even better indicated:
*******************
RHUS TOXICODENDRON
Poison-ivy
The effects on the skin, rheumatic pains, mucous membrane affections,
and a typhoid type of fever, make this remedy frequently indicated.
Rhus affects fibrous tissue markedly-joints, tendons,
sheaths-aponeurosis, etc, producing pains and stiffness.
Post-operative complications. Tearing asunder pains. Motion always
"limbers up" the Rhus patient, and hence he feels better for a time
from a change of position. Ailments from strains, overlifting, getting
wet while perspiring. Septic conditions. Cellulitis and infections,
carbuncles in early stages (Echinac). Rheumatism in the cold season.
Septicæmia.
*********
Well, this developed into "another tour" only while I was writing -
one ting leading to the next:-)

Luise

Hello, just jumping in to ask a quick question: the article that you
refer to by a female author...what article is it and by whom?
if you don;t mind letting me know I'd really appreciate it as haven't
read previous entries on this topic...I too love the quote below
on "what is best in the person,...their core of genius", etc...
Want to send it along to Homeopath and Osteopath friends with proper
reference.
thanx,
Laura C.
