Phobia re vomiting

Post by Anneke Hogeland »

30 yr old woman has a pathological phobia re vomiting. If she hears
someone talking about it, or thinks about it, whenever she gets 'that
twinge in the stomach', then she flies directly into major panic
attack, when she must hold on to a bucket or trash an, just in case
she has to vomit herself. She does not actually vomit -last time she
did was 12 years ago when she actually had a stomach flu (and it was
terrible). All this is worse when she is alone, and it is especially
bad when she has to fly, because in a plane she could not get away
from her seat if it happened.
Any ideas? I think there must be a remedy that has this, but no luck
finding it so far. Thanks, Anneke
Kind regards, Anneke Hogeland

Hi, Anneke.
Here's a rubric that could serve as a starting point:

MIND - phenomena - delusions, imaginations - sick - going to be, that he was

bell.b hell.b nat-p.k nicc-met.rb podo.k
It might be interesting to pursue the line of questioning: what about vomiting actually triggers the fear? The rationale you cited for being especially afraid in a plane might be a line of questioning to follow -- what would happen if she couldn't get away from her seat and had to be sick? I bet that could give you a clue or two to follow. Timidity in public??? Or some other, different issue (e.g., fastidious? controlled? conscience/ duty? ....)

If paired with the much larger rubric "Stomach sensation is if about to vomit", the three remedies that come through without the further clarification are Bell, Hell, and Podo. Adding "MIND Phenomena anticipating" narrows the remedy selection down to Bell, for what it's worth -- although the delusion rubric may be too small to be reliable.

If "Thoughts persistent" is applicable, then it might also be worth considering Arg-n, Ars, Carb-v, Sil, Thuj, Aur, Dros, Med, plus the 5 remedies in the delusion rubric, esp. Hell -- based on other modalities and symptoms.

I didn't use "Fear of vomiting," with its two remedies -- figured you'd been there...

Hopefully, you see a remedy or two here that might prove fruitful on further examination.

Warmly, Rosemary
