legislative effort

Post by Hompierre »

Dear All:
It is interesting to see someone, who happens to widely criticize the ways of
some perfectly fine homeopaths, write with extensive knowledge about freedom
legislation in various states and yet "forgets" to write about the efforts in
NYS which happen to be the closest of any states to pass BOTH houses. We need
all the help we can get in NY from everybody in the country. Within the next
few weeks we will be asking you to write or call legislators in NY. Please be
present forthe roll call to make a large impression upon those who hold a
piece of our destiny in their hands. I hope you will be many to assist us in
this ground breaking effort. Please tell your friends, this is the time to
recruit.
Thank you

Hi Pierre,

I hope you are well and that your efforts are gaining momentum...

It has been a little while since we last communicated, but this time I am writing to you for two things:

As a Canadian homeopath who sees patients from "over the river" in New York State, I would like to be supportive of the efforts to help pass this legislation. Do you have any ideas about those I could contact, to help?

Also, I have a colleague in Buffalo New York who is a gifted homeopath--but she is terrified of openly practicing homeopathy for fear of legal problems (she has a young daughter and is recently separated, so she feels she is not only putting herself at risk, but also her child). She practices on a very small scale, but is also looking for work that she can do to help supplement her income. I was wondering: is there an organization of homeopaths/alternative health care practitioners working on this effort who might be able to afford to pay someone like her for her skills--even if only on a part-time basis? She may be helpful as an organizer, writer, administrator...someone who could really enhance the efforts of those involved to make people aware of the need for legislative change.

I would appreciate any information you could send my way on this--though I understand that it could be very possible that everyone involved works as volunteers. In any case, I look forward to helping out in my own way. Let me know if a letter from someone outside the country (but closely aligned to the issue) might help--I'll write to homeopaths all over Ontario to encourage their participation as well.

Regards,
Nancy Siciliana

Dear Nancy,

If you like, I will forward a copy of the Patient's Bill of Rights in NYS to you. For that matter, I will forward it to anyone on the list who would like it. I encourage you to pass this on to others to read (it is a very readable document).

I want to remind you and others, that it is not only homeopaths who are protected by this bill. It is important that we connect with other holistic practitioners, who seem to know nothing of this effort and get there involvement. But even more importantly, it is essential that we enlist the support of the general public.

I tell every person who I deal with on health issues about this effort and ask them to support it by writing to their legislataive representatives.

As to your colleague in Buffalo, I am sorry that she feels so intimidated. Several years ago I participated in dialogues with people about the legal status of practicing in NYS. I also called my lawyer. First, and most simply, legally we are in a better place with no licensing on the books than if there was and we practiced as lay people without certification. Second, although you colleague needs to make her own choices, I must say that many of us have made a different choice. I have been advertising openly and networking openly as a homeopath for several years. Perhaps your colleague lacks the communal support that she needs to overcome her intimidation. She may write to this list, or to me privately, if she wishes to discuss this.

sincerely,

tanya marquetteh

Pierre, Tanya and All - I am very interested in the current legislative
effort toward health freedom in New York and would like to receive a copy of
the patient's bill of rights. If it is not too long, perhaps, you could post
it to the list so that everyone could see it. I am a resident of New York
who would be willing to do what I can to help this legislation pass and I
would encourage others from NY State and elsewhere around the world to offer
your assistance in these efforts. This is how we will win the battle - one
step at a time.

Hi Tanya,

Please forward this bill of rights to me--I'm very much interested in following up (also, would you be able to list people to whom I could direct letters towards/calls? I could pass that on to others on the Canadian side who are interested in encouraging the bill into law).

I'm sorry I can't respond directly to you in private, as I simply have no way of accessing your email on this list. Would you mind writing me in private at
siciliana@sympatico.ca ? The letter I sent out to the list was really meant for Pierre; but I'm glad it caught your attention too.

Thanks,
Nancy
