Loss of smell and taste...

Post by McPhee Family »

I have read of this happening quite a bit in people - either loss of smell and taste or some kind of perversion of the taste in the mouth. A mom contacted me yesterday after taking Pulsatilla (water dosing) for a difficult cold/flu and within 24 hours she had lost her sense of taste and smell completely. Given her other symptoms, it seemed she was proving the Puls despite each water dose had improved her symptoms up until that point. I have tried to select a remedy which both covers the symptoms and antidotes Pulsatilla with little result (Bryonia).
I know a perversion in taste can be symptomatic of the miasm but what does it mean if it happens *after* a remedy? Can anyone explain what this is? Is it an activation of the underlying miasm? Is it proving symptoms?
Any thoughts or suggestions are most welcome! Thanks!
Truly,
Erica

Hi Erica,

Loss of smell and taste is common with acute coryza/cold/flu.

So it may be just a case of making the cold/flu more acute or shifting
symptoms around inside that illness.

I should wait and see what happens. Things seem to be moving and may
keep on moving. I should look for a possible different remedy after
the symptom picture has been stable for a while.

Thanks Luise,
I think you're right. No further improvement and no new symptoms ... will watch to see.
Thanks for responding!

Erica

Hi Erica,
Well, the symptoms of Puls. usually show up after the cold/coryza has
become chronic.

Suriya on the other list recently suggested that in cases where the
remedy fitting the chronic state does not work, it is often useful to
to find a remedy similar to the acute state and give this.
