Hysterectomy - menses suppression ? [was vaginal bleeding in ...

Post by Arun »

Hi Dave,

i think we should be careful about using the menses suppression rubrics for
states developing after hysterectomy

several factors may be invoved (apart from menses "suppression") :

-suppression of disease expression at the level of uterus/ female genitalia
(what was the hysterectomy for - fibroid ? or other tumor)- causing
expression at a different/deeper plane
-individual reaction to surgery/anesthetics (like in complaints after
laparotomy of staph)
- psychological effects of surgery etc
-what kind of surgery - ovaries retained/removed etc may present
differently
the menses suppression rubrics gives medicines which have a tendency for
"suppression" of menses from certain causes (eg exposure to cold) and
certain states associated with/developing from the suppression

as i said the after effects of hysterectomy may be due to factors other than
menses "suppression" (i would have thought "climacteric" rubrics are more
appropriate, but again would hesitate to use it for the same reasons)

regards,
Arun
