A few weeks have passed since we last updated you on the Homeopathy Worked for Me campaign. The following will bring you up to speed. We are also asking for your help – and in your case, it might only take you a few minutes to help out (see the first item in this email).

We’ve had lots of supporters telling us that they are able to put aside time (and energy) to help with this campaign. And depending on the amount of each you personally have available, there is plenty you can do.

A few words from Miranda Castro – our new patron
We recently announced that Miranda Castro – very well known in the world of homeopathy – has agreed to be the patron of H:MC21 (the trust behind this campaign). Miranda is incredibly well respected, widely published and has presented at numerous conferences around the world.

When accepting the role as Patron, she stated: "Homeopathy Worked For Me is a brilliantly achievable campaign. It is also deceptively simple. I am honored to be a patron of such a committed and creative group whose passion for homeopathy matches my own."

A new trustee has been appointed appointed
Dr. Rajesh Bhide has joined H:MC21 as a fourth trustee.

Dr Bhide studied homeopathy in India and now practises in the UK. He’s a brilliant advocate for homeopathy and has offered to give talks to promote the Homeopathy has worked for me campaign. We are thrilled to have Dr Bhide on board.

Amy Lansky urges people to keep telling the stories …
If you receive the Society of Homeopaths newsletter, you would have read the quarterly column called “Letter from America” written by Amy Lansky. She is a board member for the National Center for Homeopathy in the USA and also the author of Impossible Cure: The Promise of Homeopathy which is popular in America and has been translated into German, Greek and soon Arabic.

In a letter to homeopaths recently, Amy wrote:

One thing that has contributed to the success of my book are the stories in it -- the story of how my son was cured of autism, along with dozens of other first-person homeopathic cure stories from people all over the world. Stories make the world go round. And it is stories that can help save homeopathy -- because people will not allow something that can really help them to be taken away. Very few people are moved by studies; but nearly everyone is affected by someone's personal experience.. That's what this campaign is all about.
I'm sure most of you are aware of the attacks on homeopathy going on in the UK. These attacks are starting to be felt here in the US as well. All American homeopaths are acutely aware of how homeopathy was nearly destroyed at the beginning of the 20th century due to a concerted campaign by the allopathic machine.
All I can say is -- NOW is the time to act to protect your right to practice homeopathy and the right of your patients to receive homeopathic treatment. It is NOT a time for head-in-the-sand mentality.

However, your right to practice, your access to remedies, and your patients' rights to health freedom may soon become jeopardized as well. Just consider the growing efforts to harmonize practices and access to remedies with the EU and GTO rulings. And let's not forget the mounting effort of the medical-industrial complex to paint homeopathy as not only bogus but even dangerous.

Amy urges homeopaths and patients alike to speak up for homeopathy and to show support for Homeopathy Worked for Me.

Here are some ideas on how to gather signatures:
... have one by the door, for the milkman, postman etc to sign – you will be amazed how many people have used homeopathy and are willing to sign
... carry one in every handbag, rucksack, coat pocket, wherever you go - there may be someone who wants to sign – just ask
... distribute the form to health food shops and clinics, and ask them to encourage people to sign
... if you are a homeopath or health practitioner have one on your desk and get your patients to sign – our experience is that they are almost always happy to do so

BBC Health Website deletes complementary medicine – and what you can do about it

About a month ago, the controllers of BBCHealth (www.bbc.co.uk/health ) the health section on one of the most accessed websites in the world, decided to remove all coverage of complementary medicine!



They used to have substantial coverage with over 40 pages on this subject covering all the major therapies, their pros and cons, evidence for their effectiveness, how to find a qualified practitioner, etc.

However the site has in recent months been sent a deluge of letters and emails claiming that complementary therapies such as homeopathy and cranial osteopathy should be removed. As a result large chunks of this part of the site were simply removed overnight and now, following recent cutbacks, it was decided that, rather than update this part of the site, it should simply be removed altogether!

It may seem incredible that a public service site this prominent can deem complementary medicine so insignificant that it no longer warrants any coverage other than the odd news story. This is despite the fact that complementary medicine is used favourably by a significant proportion of the population (recent surveys have estimated that around 1 in 5 Britons use it at some point or other) and that increasing numbers of people are now seeking to train in these therapies.

However, as the 'quack busters' become more organised and active, evidence of the backlash against complementary medicine is appearing all over the place - such as the removal of PCT funding for homeopathy, the threatened closure of the homeopathic hospitals, many negative news stories in the press and so on. Rather than taking a reasoned view and considering the evidence from good research studies on complementary medicine some groups seem simply hell bent on trying to 'stamp out' complementary medicine in any way possible. The BBCi removal of complementary medicine coverage (which has been in place for almost 15 years!) is one example.

If you believe information pages on it should be returned to BBCi, please, please take just a minute to express your views using their online comment form at … http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/ … to make your view known. As a public service company they have to listen to your views so your email will make a difference. Apparently for all the many letters and emails that they received that were against complementary medicine they only received a handful in support. Therefore if you are in support please let them know so they may revise their thinking on this subject.

Please act as soon as possible and pass on these details to anyone else you know who may also be willing to write in support of complementary medicine.

“Homeopathy for animals” under threat …
Are you aware that the British Veterinary Surgeons Act is currently under review? At present, by strict interpretation, homoeopathy given to animals by anyone other than a vet or an owner is illegal, no matter how well qualified the practitioner, (though an unqualified vet may give a homoeopathic remedy). In actual practice this is a grey area as so few vets are qualified in homoeopathy (about 250) and so many owners demanding homoeopathic or other alternative treatment (65% reported 2 years ago in a Vet magazine). There is a parliamentary committee looking into updating the Vet Surgeons Act (last done 1967) and they are inviting information and comment.
At present the rationale for excluding homoeopathy is that an animal cannot chose and must therefore be given the best treatment available. An interesting concept of judgement (conventional is best, even where there is no treatment and the animal is to be culled?) and one which can similarly be applied to babies and probably with a bit of thought, to children, volatile teenagers, the elderly and so on.

Four short videos about homeopathy, presented by William Alderson (one of the trustees of H:MC21) will soon appear on YouTube. They provide an explanation about how homeopathy works, using plain English and everyday props. We’ll let you know as soon as they go live!
