mostly lead) but I would be wary of doing this while breast feeding. My
dentist's attitude is that in the amalgam mercury is inert unless it is
drilled out when you do get fumes in the mouth from the heat produced.
That is not true - chewing releases vapors.
I don't agree. It can be done properly and little effect but again if
someone is very sensitve have to weigh it all.
not going to affect you. I am from the age who played with Mercury at
school . We used to roll it around in our hands, scoop it up if it fell,
worked in laboratories with large mercury barometers which worked by
having a open container of mercury at the bottom. I was also in my other
life a chemistry teacher. All I know if that I have never to my knowledge
been thought of as completely losing it (just don't ask my kids:-) and I
still have a thick head of hair and a good colour to my skin!!!

No one know the long term effect of any of that. Yes, susceptibility is
part of it but mercury is the 2nd most toxic substance on the planet next
to uranium. There is no safe level. And having it in your mouth and
releasing vapors constantly is different too.

I would suggest it is no more dangerous chipped than it was whole - can't
speak for sure on that.
Vapors are released with chewing while you are breastfeeding.

I'll send info
Sheri

PS - no one should do any chelation while there is still mercury in their
mouth

Remedy for chelation?

Post by Helen Tucker »

Hi group,

I have 2 mercury amalgam fillings. A few days ago, a big piece chipped off
one of the fillings. I am breastfeeding, so I am very concerned about
mercury exposure. I went to the dentist a day later and had him replace all
my amalgam fillings with another material. At the same time, I put my 6
month old baby on formula He is miserable and is currently refusing to
eat anything.

I want to go back to breastfeeding as quickly as I can. I am not sure how
long to wait after amalgam replacement before my breastmilk would be safe
again. If there is a remedy that can help speed up the process, I would be
very grateful. Is there a remedy that can help chelate mercury or heavy
metals?

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Helen

Hi Helen,
Did you ask your dentist about that? I realize he doesn't have "all
the information" about mercury toxicity, but still...

To help remove from your body, chlorella is said to to it, and also
cilantro--tablespoon or so daily? Maybe less; it wasn't a huge amount
as I recall. If you google about mercury detoxification, there's a
good deal out there... I've also seen products in the health food
store that are specifically aimed at mercury detox, which would be
maybe an easier place to start.

Honestly if I were in your shoes, I do think I'd go back to nursing...
But I'm watching with interest to see if anyone has specific
information!
(but--
Best,
Shannon

Cilantro (Coriander ) made into a tea also deals with chelation (I think mostly lead) but I would be wary of doing this while breast feeding. My dentist's attitude is that in the amalgam mercury is inert unless it is drilled out when you do get fumes in the mouth from the heat produced. That is why IMO it is dodgy to have your mercury amalgam fillings removed. It is all to do with susceptibility and if you are not susceptible it is not going to affect you. I am from the age who played with Mercury at school . We used to roll it around in our hands, scoop it up if it fell, worked in laboratories with large mercury barometers which worked by having a open container of mercury at the bottom. Incidentally in the laboratory if there is a mercury spill you have to cover it with finely powered Sulphur so a compound of mercury sulphide is formed to make it inert.

Great to get rid of the mercury, but it matters how it is done. I
hope yours was done with appropriate care.

I had mine all removed last year, but researched very carefully to
find where to go to get this done. I went to a dentist who
specializes in removing mercury, in the next state. He has mercury
extraction systems in the office, and uses special dams around the
tooth/teeth (to prevent any mouth contact of mercury during removal)
and suction during the procedure, plus breathing apparatus for the
client to prevent mouth breathing (as that will have mercury vapours)
during the drilling in cold to remove amalgam - to avoid heating the
mercury which then is airborne.
The special overhead extraction system removes it from the office air
to keep clietns and staff safe when working with the stuff.

You did not say what if any precautions were taken against severe
mercury release into your system during the procedure of amalgam
removal and that is why i started with EEK.
I hope that you did have such precautionary procedures and just did
not mention it.

When I had mine removed, I also used Mercury 6C a couple times a day
aqueous, during the work days and for a week after, to assist in any
detox from any exposure.
What kind?
Most are terrible soy-based junk. Any sensible baby would be upset by
a sudden diet change anyway, especially if the protein is different.

I do not know if mercury would go into the breast milk, and I have no
definitive ideas to suggest.
Instinct would say to me that if I had serious exposure during
amalgam removal, I'd want to detox at least a week before
breastfeeding. But I have no data or specific knowledge to offer on
that.

On baby formulas meantime - if you have a copy of Adelle Davis's book
"Let's have Healthy Children" even though it is very old, it is still
valid nutritionally in many ways and would be better than commercial
junk formulas.
At six months your baby probably gets some other foods besides breast
milk? (perhaps meat, if only to provide the necessary iron no longer
enough in milk)
I hope you find a way to encourage healthy eating.

On detox, I'd also consult a naturopathic or homeopathic dentist who
specializes in amalgam removal on how to detox. The one I went to is
Dr Eastin, who is also a Naturopath. His email is somewhere on his
website if that helps:
http://www.eastindentistry.com/
Also see here on amalgam removal - scroll down past the questions list:
http://www.eastindentistry.com/faq#cf5c ... 0fcbf597b2

I wish you well. The amalgam removal will be a good thing long-term.

Namaste,
Irene

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I am in Peru, so my dental options are limited. If there is a mercury
removal specialist out there, I have no idea how to find that person.
Dentists here usually don't have websites like American dentists. I tried
googling, but didn't find anything.

I researched all the mercury removal precautions, but the best I could find
was to travel 2.5 hours by bus to a dentist who uses anesthetics, rubber
dams, and suction, and charged me an arm and a leg (by Peruvian standards)
for it. But dentists in my local area don't use any of that, so for me it
was worth it. He removed all mercury and replaced it with composite
filling. My mouth is mercury free now.

My son is still refusing to take any formula. He will accept cow's milk,
butter, avocado, and bananas--so that is what he is eating. Needless to
say, we are both chomping at the bit to go back to breastfeeding.

I also asked my homeopath about this. He recommended Merc Viv, so I am
taking that as well as eating lots of cilantro. I am hoping this will allow
me to return to breastfeed in a few days.

I would love to continue to get suggestions and ideas. Thanks.

Helen.

Hi Helen,
I wonder if there is a lab in your area that could simply test your
milk for mercury?
But I think best to do that when you *haven't* been taking anything to
detox, as that might (I think) increase its secretion? There must be a
place that can test your milk!
