re rubric for has to smell everything

Would someone be able to help me with a rubric –

Child 10 yrs – ADD - PQRS he has to smell absolutely everything – not just food – Mother says it is almost an obsession

I cant find a rubric which seems to be pertinent – it is such a strong individual characteristic that I am sure it is impt

Hi Pauline,
The dynamic of why might be important. For example I know a child who always needed to experience things through her nose - we weren't sure if it was about the smell or the feel of something going across her nose gently. We thought that had to do with sensory input issues somewhere in the autistic spectrum - a seeking of stimulation.
The compulsion might be a way in to a rubric. These are a couple I found - I know the walking isn't relevant - but thought the sense of compulsion in those remedies might be worth noting. I thought the confusion rubric might be useful because smell can be a useful way to arouse and focus the mind.
Combined, Mind; ANXIETY, do something, compelled to, bry[2]

Combined, Mind; RESTLESSNESS, anxious, compelling rapid walking, ambr[1], am-br[2], am-c[1], am-m[1], amyg-am[1], anac[2]

Combined, Mind; CONFUSION, arouse himself, compelled to, carb-v[3], choc[1], hydrog[1], sulph[2]

Phatak, All; IDEAS, COMPELLING, lach[2], nit-ac[1]
It's interesting for me to see Lachesis in Phatak because I have heard recently from the child's mother, and Lachesis has been helping amazingly, maybe not the last remedy she needs, but a very important one.

Hi Gail thanks for this – funny I have just finished the repertorisation on what I have already and the top remedy is – Lachesis

I forgot to put in that he also has Type 1 diabetes Insulin dependent.

I will try Lachesis and see where I get!

Hi Pauline,

This is a frequent symptom among children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).

While it is still useful to repertorise, and a good marker symptom by which to assess the impact of the remedy, it is not a useful PQRS for an ASD child.

Of the cases I have treated a variety of remedies rather than just one have been needed.

Just take the case as normal and prescribe on overall totality of characteristic symptoms - of which this symptom a part.

I usually use the "sensitive to odors" rubric.
