Does anyone know what a Q potency can be apart from Mother tincture? I
was reading a proving which said the remedy was available in Ds and Qs
eg; Q6 Q9
I assume D is for Decimal and means X.

Re: Q potency?
from David Little
The Q potency is an abbreviation for the Quinquagenimillesimal potency. The term Quinquaginta is Latin 50 and millesmial means 1000. This is the correct Latin term for the Fifty Millesimal potency. The term LM is not actually correct in that it literal means 950 rather than 50 thousand. Nevertheless, it has become "shorthand" of the 50 millesimal potency in common practice. The actual Roman numeral for 50, 000 is ICCC with the Cs reversed to face the left hand side. Many in Europe, especially on the continent, use the terms Quinquagenimillesimal potency and Q abbreviation such as Q1, Q2, Q3, etc.
These remedies "should" be manufactured starting with the 3C trituration and ending with a 1/50,000 dilution ratio, i.e. 0/1. Then one pill of the 0/1 is used to make the 0/2, etc. The 0 stands for the "medicamens aux gloube (medicines made from the 1 pill i.e. 0/2 to 0/30), to show that they are different than the "medicamens aux goutte (medicines made from the drop i.e. C potencies). The 50 Millesimal potency remedies should be made in accordance with Hahnemann's instructions in aphorism 270 of the 6th Organon. Everything called a 50 Millesimal potency whether noted as a Q or LM should be made in this manner.
Now this said I have heard that some are making "Q potencies" that are said not to be exactly the same as the LM potency. I believe some are saying the LM potency is one preparation and the Q is another. Is this what you are taking about? What have you heard? Technically, this should not be so as the true LM or Q potency should be made by the instructions found in the 6th Organon.
Also....the Q notation is also used in England, India and USA for non potentized mother tinctures.
For example, full strength Calendula tincture is called Calendula Q, which is not a 50 Millesimal potency.

Re: Q potency?
LYNN is 'spot on' on Q potency being same as LM. (1:50,000 dilution)
The Greek letter PHI (Circle with a line going vertically down or slightly from top right to bottom left) is used to indicate MT (mother tinctures).
X and D potencies are the same. (1:10 dilution)

Re: Q potency?
Doing on-line remedy ordering recently (I think from remedia?) I
noticed they offer *both* LM and Q potencies. I wonder if that's just
for the sake of people who are confused, or whether they're two
different preparations? Sounds like "Q" is a designation that ought to
be replaced by a less conflicted term--along with "constitutional".

Re: Q potency?
Thanks for the replies on Qs - it makes sense that they are LM - the
only other option I could see is that they could be X, which didn't
make sense. Lyn I haven't heard of Q as a potency before except as
the mother tincture. This is where I read it:
"A proving of Larus argentatus (Sea-gull).
http://vitalquest.com/insight/article05e.htm
By Wilfried Fink , Germany Published in Homoeopathic Links `97/2
You can order Larus argentatus C18, C30, C200 and Q6-Q9 at the
Leonardo Apotheke, Mittelweg 30, 20148 Hamburg , Germany ,
tel.+49-40-456509, fax +49-40-451176, as well as the brochure 'Larus
argentatus, a homeopathic way of losing weight' (in German language).
Generalities:
Feeling of total exhaustion.
Feeling like being knocked out after waking up.
Physically like being knocked out in the morning but mentally fit.
Strong chilly feeling in the evening.
Feeling chilly, attack of goose-pimples all over the body (right
after
taking the remedy).
More thirst than usually.
Constantly longing for clear water.
This is of course only a small section of the symptoms of the
proving. The
complete remedy proving with repertorisation is available in print,
as well
as a little brochure called 'Larus argentatus, a homeopathic way of
loosing
weight' in German.
Many patients have already taken advantage of the most significant
symptom
of the proving (the constant longing for food); I gave them the
remedy in
Q-potencies to help them to lose weight, with excellent results!
Of course it is never a remedy alone which changes our eating habits,
so I
wrote a little brochure to show some ways of changing one's attitude
concerning eating in the long run (How do I use eating to avoid
feelings?
What are my alternatives to feel better?)"

It's like the D and X potency - it's also two designations for the same
thing.
X is roman numeral for ten and D is short for Decimal - both meaning
ten. D is more often used in some countries for tissue salts - as D6
potency instead of 6X as in USA.
Even the C designation can be confusing. In Europe it is the default so
you will see Arnica 200 for example. It implies Arnica 200C.
There there is Arnica 200C, Arnica 200CH and Arnica 200CK.
The H means made by the Hahnemann method; the K means made by the
Korsakov method. All are 200C designations.
Anyway - hope this helps.
