shin splints

Does anyone know of a specific remedy for shin splint? I would imagine Ruta Grav?

you might try arnica topically as well as the ruta.
i think i used an ointment called tropricin when i
had a shin splint. it is one of those combo products.
the list of ingredients is long. you can read them on
their web site.

I have always thought of Calc Phos. thinking they were hairline fractures but on googleing to make sure Ruta may be the most useful .perhaps other inflammatory remedies should be considered. For tight calf muscles another approach. ?? arnica for posterior compartment problem.

Shin splints (Periostitis)

What are shin splints?

Shin splints is the general name given to pain at the front of the lower leg. Shin splints is not a diagnosis in itself but a description of symptoms of which there could be a number of causes. The most common cause is inflammation of the periostium of the tibia (sheath surrounding the bone). Traction forces occur from the muscles of the lower leg on the periostium causing shin pain and inflammation.

What is the deep compartment?

The deep posterior compartment is a sheath containing muscles in the lower leg that lies just behind the tibia bone. Compartment syndromes arise when a muscle becomes too big for the sheath that surrounds it causing pain. Compartment syndromes can be acute or chronic
Acute posterior deep compartment syndrome can occur as a result of:

* An impact which causes bleeding within the compartment and therefore swelling.
* A muscle tear which also causes bleeding.
* Over use injury which also causes swelling.

Hi Rochelle,

I've often wondered exactly what a shin splint is (I've never
suffered from them obviously). I know there's more to it than just
pain in the tibia. What I do know about it is that it's a condition
caused by overuse.

This is from Clarke's Prescriber - Legs:
Pain in legs making lame, Diosc. 3, 4h. Cramp in fore part of leg
near tibia when walking; gnawing pain in shin bones; painful
contraction in calves when walking, Carb. a. 6, 4h. Pain from ankle
half way up the leg, causing lameness, Guaiac. 3, 4h. Pain in tibia,
Badiag. 6, 4h.; with great sensitiveness to touch, Lach. 6, 4h.

And maybe Calc Phos? perhaps to follow Ruta?

Thanks I will suggest the Arnica topically as well. It is my son's partner. I have also suggested that she takes a dose of Calc which is her constitutional remedy

Maybe Irene- I just had a feeling I had use Ruta before. I wonder if it is the periosternum rather than the bone that is affected.
