genus epidemicus- London Uk
Re: genus epidemicus- London Uk
She is not usually a Puls person but maybe is with this. I will find out when I see her.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions- I have all the rx with me!! Her husband will be getting Aconite if he starts coming down with it - at least to start with!

Re: genus epidemicus- London Uk
Just beginning to see a new round of 'colds' here. Similar symptoms to what you describe (except no specific leg pain described so far) but there is also intense body ache. If the aconite is given very quickly, the thing seems to be over in about 2 - 3 hours. All of the symptoms are experienced, just in a tollerable form, and people are amazed to find that in about 2 to 3 hours it feels like it is over. Overall Nat Mur has been a good follow up if the sinus symptoms linger a bit. Of course, the usual advice of liquids, rest, light meals (I usually suggest soup) and a bit of extra C seems prudent as well.

Re: genus epidemicus- London Uk
Many of the folks I have been helping have responded to Bryonia with two exceptions responding to Pulsatilla (they have the gunky nose/throat with scratching in the throat being the stand out symptom). A few have followed Ars-Puls-Bry to a T.
Bryonia does have pain in throat extending to ears (1).
I actually have had it for the past two days - creates a weird burning in the hypochondria that extends to the throat. Distended stomach with stitching pains around umbilicus. Tenesmus. Cramps in calf. Was sipping 30c every 15-30 minutes, moved to 200c which ameliorates for about 3 hours.
Deciding factor for me was worse for movement. Had pains in right ear, right thigh, and right ileum. (So all right sided.) At first was *very* thirsty, then just would take small sips.
Before I got it, baby woke up with very dry, chapped lips - asking for a sippy. Drank 3 sippies in a row. Had no appetite the night before for supper. One dose of Arsenicum and she was fine the entire day. Next day - tenesmus, irritable - Bryonia nipped it.
Another patient - distended tummy better for pressure on pillow.
Every single one of my families has this right now (from FL to Maine)! My phone won't stop ringing!
Hope it helps!

Erica

Thanks for that!! It will be difficult treating my friend as I
believe she has had this bug all week. However it doesn't seem to be
getting any better with the OTC rubbish she will have been taking!!

Rochelle-
Why would you think of someone as Puls or Phos person etc. when
trying to give a genus epidemicus? You can have a Puls or Phos
person still having a Bell epidemic remedy. The force of the
epidemic subdues the constitutional Phos or Puls tendencies and
imposes its symptomatology. Still such interactions cause a specific
set of symptoms but with a few variations, which are what we address
using a set of possible homeopathic remedies. So for each epidemic
we get a few homeopathic remedies that would cure the affected
patients whatever their chronic remedy leanings....

Re: genus epidemicus- London Uk
OK what I mean is I would expected to see Phos or Puls attributes
i.e. fearful and wanting company for phos, tearful and needy for
Puls. She is neither. She left us at the desert part of dinner to go
to bed as she really was not feeling well, quiet, voice nearly gone,
painful to swallow, a weak dry cough- which didn't hurt her chest
muscles - not Bry etc. She was eating but only half her usual
amount. I gave her the hepar + large doses of Vit C to take and will
see how she is this morning. The Homeopathic helpline she said
suggested Hepar immediately so I presume they have found this to be
the G.E. She went to the hospital before meeting us at the hotel
yesterday and was told no infection in chest but was given strong
antibiotics to take. Why oh Why do allopaths give antibiotics for a
virus???? If there is no improvement this morning after 3 Hepar
yesterday I will give her Gels. as I really couldn't get her to
drink much.

Rochelle,
Hope your friend is better today from the Hepar or Gels ... do let us know!
Thought this might be helpful for others ... rubrics that have been useful... Perhaps it is a different flu than over there?
Obviously not all had every symptom. I have had none of the upper respiratory just a tiny cough sporadically (but I started the remedy at the first sign of being ill). Others have been very congested with horrible cough (varying from croupy and dry to very loose, rattling with mucus). Last night my main symptom was dry mouth with no thirst at all (Bryonia, 3).
All I know is I am on day 5 of this and without the remedy I would be down for the count! Otherwise, just fatigued. Haven't felt irritable, just want to lie down and be still which after 4 days turned to a restlessness in bed last night. Baby continues to play and be happy with dose of Bryonia (1 tsp, 30c) if symptoms creep up. Son's rattling, loose cough (no pain in chest) amel with Bryonia, 30c, 1 tsp.
Maybe I'll try Gelsemium if the fatigue doesn't go! But Bryonia certainly does ameliorate as soon as I take it, as it has for most of my consults (the others, Pulsatilla). I will have to keep Gelsemium and Hepar in mind if I fail to get completely well soon!
P.S. Those in the later stages not responding to the Pulsatilla, have responded to Kali Bich but the symptoms obviously have to fit.
Thanks!

Re: genus epidemicus- London Uk
Dear Erica,
My friend is MUCH better today. We have been out for lunch and been
for a long walk. She seems to cough when she comes indoors but the
cough is more productive. Her appetite still is not up to her normal
voracious state but at least she is eating. She has just arrived in
our room for a cup of tea rather than lying down as I expected her
to. Also her voice is a lot stronger. I don't think she believes it
waas the Hepar although I told her that 2 antibiotics wouldn't have
done this!!
Hope you are better soon.
