deep, quick inhalation w/each phrase/breath
Dear group,
What would be the rubric for taking a deep, quick inhalation w/each
phrase/breath. before speaking? (This is in a 5 yr old.)
Thanks,
Lynn

I love to know if there's a rubric for this. I can find gasping and
sighing under Respiration - but I don't think they would stretch to
this.
I'd be looking at the bigger picture, for example:
Is there a mechanical issue? if there is damage to the larynx or some
sort of obstruction this can become part of the speech pattern.
Or is it part of a dramatic nature? Or is the child trying to talk
too quickly? Or considering each word and phrase too carefully?
Gail.

I have the same thing with a 7 year old, no other symptoms, just seems to need extra air.

Re: deep, quick inhalation w/each phrase/breath
Long before I knew anything much about homeopathy, our 5-year-old (now 24 and a lovely young lady) started to blink both eyes in a disturbing manner. A tic, I guess it was. After it had gone on for a while, we explained to her what she was doing and that it worried us, mentioned it a few times more, and lo and behold, she stopped. She is a very determined person and maybe not just anyone could stop a tic in its tracks—not sure… She had had IBS as a toddler—well something like that anyway—and was very hyper, also as a toddler; I believe she was adversely affected by the vaccines she received from age 4 months—but who knew at that point! By the age of 5, most of that had resolved itself through good food, exercise, and LOTS of love. Maybe this will, too, if it is pointed out to the child? Teresa (Northern VA)

Re: deep, quick inhalation w/each phrase/breath
Hi Gail,
She doesn't have any mechanical issues at all. Her mother brought her
in to see if she had some sort of asthma & doc said no.
I think it is emotional as she is very bright and dramatic and gets
excited about things.
When she is sick or upset she has a panic attack and almost can't
breath.
This is another baby eczema case, although that is not why mother
sought homeopathic care -
this little girl is severely allergic to peanuts, already having gone
into anaphylactic shock once and brought to the er.
Her eczema and mentals (tantrums and violence toward mother) have
been getting better on nux-v lm
(no more hitting and skin only < evening & eating) but this deep
inhalation before speaking, agg when things get tense, has persisted
and I would like to find a rubric for it (I have an old macrep) or a
remedy (nosode?) that touches it.
Thanks,
Lynn

Yes Elizabeth.
She does seem to need extra air, esp. when she is excited.
I have also seen this before but not in my office.
Thanks,
Lynn

Calc-p is an interesting thought for her as it does cover a peculiar
part of her picture - it used to be that she only wanted to wear
pink - the princess thing that is so popular now in the US - but now
she likes violet also – her 2 fave colors.
But on the other hand she was walking at 10 months and comes from
what I believe to be a loving secure home - her father is a
successful restaurateur and her mother stays home with the children.
Also she is doing very well in bilingual school which she loves.
Thanks Jean.
My best,
Lynn

Hi Vera,
Can't come up with a rubric but the drama makes me think of Ignatia -
the same plant family as Nux V.
Clarke's MM - "Constriction sensation in trachea and larynx. Voice
feeble, inability to speak loud." "Desire to draw a long
breath" "Sighing respriration"
It sounds as though the breaths taken are actually only shallow -
from the top of the chest and not the nice deep abdominal breathing
that happens when properly relaxed.

Actually I think a Calc Phos case can gasp for air as much as Ignatia. Not sure but maybe not as long drawn out. I have seen this about 4 times. Also find that they are searching for a place in life. In rubric not at home. Also sometimes they feel not in their body [again not at home ]. A patient I had lost this feeling as soon as I put the remedy in their hand, I think it could be suitable for a fast growing child who had the food preferences and had some thirst. Would also use it for growing pains if had the food modalities, Jean
