failure. First, the regulators say that for this product to be allowed that
77% (!) of the animals have to be "cured" without any side effects. Doesn't
everyone wish that there was ONE drug, homeopathic or otherwise, that could
do this. Does this mean that we should not allow ANY drugs at all?

For the first time Australian cats and dogs will be trialed on a homeopathic
medicine to treat frazzled nerves.

Makers of the treatment, called 'anxiety', say it will relieve symptoms of
stress in pets caused by thunderstorms, fireworks and car travel in animals.
Animals will be spilt into two groups and given either the real thing or
placebo formula which is dropped into the pets mouth at least three times
daily.

Vets and owners will not be informed on which group an animal belongs to
until after results have been collated.

Over three months the animals will be monitored for calm behaviour during
thunderstorms and fireworks and not drooling or throwing up while travelling
in cars.

To pass Australian regulations the herbal remedy, which will retail at $30
for a 15ml a bottle, will need to show no side-effects and 77 per cent of
owners must report that their animals have been cured by the medication.

The use of homeopathy in veterinary medicine is controversial. Critics say
current research, and scientific investigation is not of a high enough
standard to provide reliable data.

Research published in the scientific journal, the Lancet, said that in
people homeopathic medicine is no better for users than taking a sugar pill.
The Australian government does not usually issue permits to trial natural
medicine for animals. HomeoPet say they are the first.

Organisers currently have 70 pets on their books and hope to recruit a total
of 180 to legally complete the trial.

Does anyone know how we could find out what's in it?
If they're confused over whether it's herbal or homeopathic, that's not

Soroush and All-

We have plenty of PhDs in the homeopathic field... and some MDs as
well... cannot we come up with a good double blind trial - do a
public invite for the nay sayers to comment on it and then conduct
it?
We do not have to prove potency works - so pick up some 3x- 6x
remedy... either alone or a combination of few remedies - just make
sure that this combination has proven effective for a particular
condition ABC... this can be the joint pain in osteo arthritis for
example...

If it is a single remedy- first find a few patients who require that
remedy - this you can arrive at by having the patient reviewed by a
panel of homeopaths or whatever -but get a homogenous group of only
Rhus Tox patients or Bryonia patients or whatever....if we can
organize this thing in India we can get plenty of patients...

Then for this Rhus tox patients give Rhus tox to half of them and
placebo to the other.... make it a double blind -we are proving that
the indicated remedy works for the patients who need it- all we need
to prove is that the remedy is significantly more effective than the
placebo-

This protocol should be reviewed by allopaths / naysayers BEFORE it
is studied- any problems with this?
