Muscle spasm
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but I can't seem to find the answer...
What rubric(s) would apply to spasm of a single muscle?
He complains of "I dunno, it just hurts. A nerve or something." in his
shoulder. But on putting a hand there, one can feel a cramped/spasmed
muscle angling across his shoulder blade, almost like a broad, lumpy
rope under the skin. (Not quite that extreme; but it's a definite
lump, from a spasmed muscle.)
I am looking at rubrics:
Contraction (and subs)
Convulsion, spasm (etc.)
Thanks,
Shannon

generals shortened muscles and tendons
generals, complaints of muscles

So definitely know what's true:
2 and 2 is 22 -
and 2 times 2 is 2:-)

Re: Muscle spasm
These are quite common - are often caused when people use a fixed particular position that causes tension.
The use of the computer mouse is a great maintaining cause.
Regular exercise of the shoulder and arms and also massage as Kathleen suggests are the best way forward.
You will also find that if you can squeeze hard the tight muscle between thumb and index finger, after the initial pain, the muscle relaxes!

Re: Muscle spasm
Thanks Lynn,
None of this really sounds like what I'm seeing--but evidently they are
as close as I can get! I guess it's back to "the rest of the case",
and reading... (Several remedies in those rubrics are plausible...)

Re: Muscle spasm
Luise, is that a rubric you see, and if so, in what rep? I don't see
it...
In any case I'd think of convulsion as being more of an active and
short-term thing--am I mistaken? I guess "cramp" might be a better
word for this one than "spasm" (tho spasm is what the doctor etc. would
call it).

Re: Muscle spasm
Just a thought - but I would consider using a topical - such as arnica gel (or whatever is appropriate to this individual), hot shower, massage, or such - and get him relief. Once the pain is eased - then backtrack looking for the cause - poor posture, new desk chair, tension at work, argument with family member, too many hours in traffic, new activity, old injury, etc. But when someone is in pain with a cramped muscle they are not likely to be able to help you with the detective work. Unless the cramping is a chronic problem - I would be hesitant to look for a rubric until more about the nature/timing/related issues are examined.

Re: Muscle spasm
All these from Knerr
Muscles, cramps ( contractions)- here and there , worse calves and
inner part of thighs- Kali.bi
now here, now there - Caust
of single sets- Crocus
Caust has paralysis of single parts of course and is very good for
that- it also has cough causing pain in hips and distant parts. I
have treated and cured a case based on that symptom...

Maybe:
EXTREMITIES - CRAMPS - Shoulders
EXTREMITIES - PAIN - Shoulders - drawing pain - cramping
EXTREMITIES - TWITCHING - Shoulders
I'd check diet - muscles need lots of magnesium (and potassium).
Namaste,
