down 'n dirty in the village

Post by Ananda Ruchira »

Hi all,

just an FYI-

Recently one of my grads opened her clinic in her village. Besides homeopathy, she also just finished her Community Health Social Worker degree. She had seen only 5 patients with chronic problems, but they were already improving.

On Friday night the clinic was broken into, her MM & Rep & rx's stolen, the case papers torn and tossed onto the street.

Curious & curiouser?

It seems the local village allopath(s) interests know how to protect their turf......

till later,
Sincerely,
Didi Ananda Ruchira

Didi, how sad!!! Does she/do you have specific ideas as to people
involved, and is there any chance of talking with them face-to-face?

I've been impressed at Dr. Roz's reports of congenial collegiate
relations with allopaths in his area; surely it must be possible to do
more of that. I would think that, to have the "combatants" :-/ see
each other as *people* should be helpful, shouldn't it? And if there's
any way she could ally with them in *any* way... After all, I am sure
that there, as well as here, there will be some people who will prefer
to work with the allopaths anyway?

I realize my naiveté is showing again... But thought I would ask
anyway...

Dear Didi Ananda

Is there any way we can help her to set up again?

Regards

Soroush

i feel like a broken record. but a little 'paranoia' is a healthy
thing. health care is a political/economic football and it is
naive to not recognize this.

it seems that once people become 'practitioners' they
assume a level of entitlement that lacks a real evaluatin
of where things are at politically. we have no real
entitlement in this day an age. and the powers that be
are closing in around us on every level possible. what
could not be accomplished in the 1940's is being
successfully implemented today--unless we fight back
together!!

IMO one response to "paranoia" that can at times be useful, is to work
to build bridges wherever we can. How does the saying go? "Keep your
friends close--and keep your enemies closer." I am not advocating
being two-faced, and pretending good-will where in fact one feels
animosity; rather I am saying that at least *sometimes*, creating good
working relationships winds up being the better "defense"--for "us",
for "them", whatever. (Other times other steps might be needed in
order to *get* to that point...)

i have nothing against building coalitions on
a given issue. but didi's situation raises the
spector of intransigence in the oppostion. i must
note that an old friend of mine who was a professional
mediator was always going back and forth with me on
this issue. after returning to nyc and working there
for a time, she came back to tell me that she now
knew that there are times when you just have to
acknowledge that the opposition is the enemy and
there will be no bridges built. they play down and
dirty and you need to be able to rise to the occasion.
what i would add is that there is a big difference
between 'being nice' and being 'pleasant.' too often
i find people get sucked into pleasant when, in fact,
these people are not very nice! nice is something you
do; pleasant is an affect--very superficial in my book.
it does take a bit of courage to stand up to power and
speak truth. you can be pleasant, but you cant give up
the fight just to be pleasant. there is a guy who i
was on a committe with. he was so taken up with himself.
his favorite line seemed to be to 'play along, to get along.'
he was horrific on the committe. yes, people liked him, but
he stood for nothing. and that is what pleasant buys in the
long run.

Hi Tanya,
Your point is very well taken! I would only point out, tho, that a
single incident is not enough basis to assume a pattern, or to assume
that nothing else is possible.
