PQRS
Re: PQRS
It fits a bit with what I've learnt as nutritional information -
waking in the night can happen because the blood sugar drops in the
very early hours. A snack during the evening of a piece of fruit can
be enough to keep the blood sugar levels high enough so you don't
wake up.
So the snack or sugar can manage the symptom of waking in the night -
why the blood sugar levels are vulnerable is another issue.

Re: PQRS
What are the patient's symptoms when he wakes up?
What time does he wake up?
Does he have to do anything before he has to go to sleep?
and how easily does he go back to sleep?
How does he measure the amount of sweets that he takes?
At what time does he have his dinner?
At what time does he go to bed?
Regards

Re: PQRS
anecdotally, i have noticed that when i have a sugar binge
i tend to hold water more. it must interfere with the bodies
elimination of water. if i then eat more lightly as with fruits
and veggies, the body will begin to drain with increased urination.
i wonder about the relation to the liver as the detox organ.

Re: PQRS
What an interesting idea, that perhaps she is trading frequent
nighttime urination for morning edema! In that case I would *think*
that over time she could begin to have ill effects from the sugar, a
suppressive effect?
If the waking is caused by blood sugar drop, I would think that a bit
of protein would be a better fix (and less apt to be
suppressive/long-term damaging) than sweets. (I am assuming that
"sweets" refers not to something healthy such as fruit, but rather to
e.g. pastry or candy?) E.g. a bit of cheese and apple, or even a
protein drink? But if the issue is edema, then it wouldn't help that.
Curious!

Re: PQRS
it is also interesting to think of the fasting state, generally.
when the body begins to fast, it cleanses.
this person's general eating patterns need to be explored.
for example if they stop eating early in the evening with only
a light meal, then the body would begin to go into a cleansing
state much earlier in the morning that if they ate a heavier
meal later in the evening.
just some thoughts

Re: PQRS
For what it's worth -- just a bit of physiology. If a person is sleeping
deeply, the brain tells the kidneys to secrete anti-diuretic hormone, which
concentrates the urine so the person doesn't have to wake up to urinate
during the night. If for some reason the sleep is not deep and normal, then
the ADH does not get secreted, and the kidney secrete urine as usual -- and
the person has to get up a couple of times and urinate. I'd be thinking
that there's some tryptophan, or at least some relaxing element in the
sweets he's ingesting in the evening, and therefore his sleep is deeper
after this, leading to normal nighttime secretion of ADH.
Homeopathically, you could probably use the rubric GENERAL-sweet-amel, which
isn't so huge.

Re: PQRS
The main problem in this case is peeing mainly than wakeup.
Sweets mean plain sugar recipes like desserts.
Alcohol drinking also not there in this case.
2 possibilities.
1. Tanya's thinking seems agreeable, ability to hold water is higher in
presence of sugar.
2. Pancreas sense sugary food & trigger more insulin production.
If it is midnight snacking theory, incontinence has no role in that theory.
Waking in present case is not for snacking but is for peeing.
Blood sugar levels in this case is 130 ~ 220mg/dl on wakeup.
A group of Finlanders used to complain they wake up 3am.
This was mainly due to alcohol burning in the stomach.
Dilute stomach with drinking water, & they are done till next day.
I also found, even with low blood sugar, urine excretion can be more to
maintain water balance in system.

No idea what that is - looks like part of the alphabet
but you have an obvious explanation below:
Pity because alcohol lowers blood sugar.
That's a case of uncontrolled diabetes - and the sweet cravings are
typical due to eating too little protein relative the carbohydrates. The
carbohydrate eating triggers more desire for more carbs - sweets - in a
vicious circle. Urination at night is typical in uncontrolled diabetes,
as the body tries to get rid of the excess sugar in the urine.
[Normal blood sugar is 80 to 90 mg/dL. Even the American Diabetes Assoc
calls it diabetes if it is over 126. Any blood sugar over 110 causes
damage.]
If he eats enough sugar before bed, it will raise the blood sugar enough
to make him extra sleepy - a standard side effect of high blood sugar.
The body will not then be able to get rid of it by morning so he may
sleep through while his pancreas smashes its Beta cells, and the sugar
causes glycation, blood vessel damage etc.
That sure is asking for trouble!
Nocturia has other potential causes too - I suggest be sure to get a
proper diagnosis despite the diabetes - there may be more than one issue
at work.
My suggestioni s:
Get him a copy of the book "Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution" (the
latest edition) along with appropriate homeopathy for ALL his issues.
It may save his life - what he's doing now is a death sentence.
