fear of statues

it occurred to me that statues may feel like beings watching
her. perhaps like seeing ghosts or being observed by spirits?
this might be an arena to explore.

yes, well you probably see more gargoyles in england that
we do here (LOL). well, maybe this will help the case

I remember watching an episode of Dr Who recently where there were
statues that came to life and sent you into another time and space as
soon as you weren't watching them - at the height of the tension the
hero/ines had to keep watching them without even blinking...

That sort of fear base could be around things (or people) that appear
stable but give way or attack at any moment with dire consequences.
Feelings of having to keep others under control, things that should
be settled or buried 'in stone' coming back to life.

Also there is the game of statues - someone is at the front with
their back turned and the others creep up behind them with the goal
of touching them - what happened if you got touched? I think you have
to go and be one of the creeping statues or is it worse than that? So
the person at the front protected themselves by turning to face the
creeping people at random times -the creeping people had to freeze
like a statue and if they were seen to move they could sent back to
the beginning.

I think that game was exploring the need to be constantly vigilant,
that people could do things behind your back, that you couldn't trust
anyone, even the most innocent appearance would eventually be the one
to catch you out....

Actually another thought is - is the fear actually of the statue or
of what the statue might do or what it represents?

It could also be about secrets - you know the other world where
things happen that aren't talked about... Or frozen feelings from old
traumas that may begin to thaw... Or maybe they were forced to visit
graveyards when they were young...

Another way to look at it is to ask "Does the fear serve them?" I
don't know how this applies to statues but I remember that I realised
I was developing a fear of flying when I didn't want to go on a
particular trip that was emotionally challenging.

Then at the opposite polarity there is the need to freeze like a
statue - you know when you wake up in the middle of the night and the
monster is under the bed....and if you even move a muscle it will
know you are there and get you....
