In the best of all circumstances glass would be best - but in doing this one - I find a simple plastic water bottle to be just fine.
Since a large percentage of the individuals I have given this recipe to have also been alcohol abusers - I have not suggested any additional 'preservatives', and have simply suggested they discard the remedy after 1 week and start over if necessary.
I seldom receive really good details in feedback on this one. Either it works or it doesn't.
While it really should be part of a bigger program (true case taking) to understand why/how they perceive smoking, how it started, etc etc etc - those who use this recipe 'casually' have reported back about 50% success rate.

My feeling is that since I am trying to do this a bit more formally, I will ask them to commit to filling in a questionnaire before and after treatment, and also try to follow up on them for around 6 months afterwards.
I'm thinking of possibly just presenting them with a glass bottle of the best size to work with, so that at least that part will be uniform. I'll also be asking what brand of cigarette they will use to make the remedy, what brands they use, what brands they don't touch etc.
I am tempted to ask them to add a tsp of brandy to the end result after 6 dilutions. Maybe for this group I will only take those with a smoking habit, to keep it simple, not those with a history of alcohol or drug use as well.
Does anyone have any more ideas for the initial or follow up questionnaire? I hope to start this study in around 2-3 weeks time.

Do you have a list of the questions you'll be asking? I'd just think
of things such as how long they've smoked, how much, what age they
started--since all of those are known to influence difficulty in
stopping--and also whether they've tried to quit before, if so how and
what happened?

I have to ask why brandy? I was taught Vodka for homeopathy and Brandy for Bach Flower Rx dilution.

I learned to use medicinal solutions from David Little, who mentions brandy in his website (see the Little Library, article entitled Solutions Large and Small). I have occasionally used vodka, but always find myself going back to the brandy (hic), for medicinal purposes of course (hic)

Hi Shannon,
Your questions are so far more or less exactly the ones I'm planning to ask. I am thinking of excluding anyone who is on chronic meds for the purpose of this study, but I'm not sure about that one as so many people today are on BP and cholesterol meds, and they are often the ones who really need to stop smoking. On the other hand I think it would be easier to assess the results and get a clearer picture in terms of the study itself if other substances aren't complicating the picture.

Just out of curiosity (since I generally use vodka and have never used brandy) -- what are your reasons for going back to the brandy? (who knows -- I may be missing something important! )

Hi Rosemary,
I think really since I've been using the brandy for so long, I only use vodka if I don't have any brandy left. I suppose also it's convenient since I do give Bach Flower Remedies sometimes (not together with homeopathic remedies though, I find that too confusing) and I use the brandy for those as well.
