case of child with umbilical hernia

Post by muthu kumar »

Abdomen , navel- hernia - Nux.m
hernia with colic in a screaming infant - Castor
hernia incarcerated - Nux.v, Opium
hernia strangulated sloughing Lach
hernia walls of abdomen so thin - Calc
protrudes in eczema of scalp - Calc
protrusion with flatulence - Lyc
All of the above from Knerr

From Boericke-
Hernia of children - Calc., Lyc, Nit.ac, nux.vom, Sil, Sul

Hernia Umbilical- Calc, Cocc, Nux.v, Plumb.m
Granatum looks good as well.

Pain itself looks like Coloc;

Having said that is this child anything like Calc.phos?
Abdomen, hernia with anemic constitutions - Calc.phos;

also the flabbiness, cold extremities, non-fusion ( weakness from
birth) all favor Calc.phos as well...

Thanks for this and for all other input - very helpful as always.
This child has received Calc in the past from another homeopath, which according to the mother never seemed to move her along. The case seemed almost "textbook" Calc, plump, low muscle tone, pale skin, upper body and especially head sweats at night, obstinacy and quite a few other symptoms.
Bryonia helped her quite a bit, but there is a feeling of something near Calc which is needed. So Calc Phos is an interesting option - also the way she nurses from her mother during the day, now she wants to nurse, now she doesn't. I saw that Nux-V also keeps popping up, which also is a possibility in the case. Does Nux-V have the sweating? I can't remember off hand. She has temper tantrums, when she is crying I asked the mother if she seems frightened or angry - she's very definitely angry. Question if Calc Phos would be screaming with anger or more whining with discontentment and unhappiness. Nux-V, or Cham (which has also come up during case taking) seem more the "screaming with anger" type when in pain. The mother reports that when the child is screaming, she looks directly into the mother's eyes, with a look that seems to say "when are you going to do something about this!"
You've all definitely given some directions to go in. Do others agree with Dr Roz that it looks like surgery is best now to avoid complications along the way?
Thanks,
Vera

Hi,

Clarke says to give nux vom and bandage a large coin (eg something large, round and flat) over the umbilicus.
