Hi Gini,
Aaah - the dreaded hot flushes (as we call them here).
One remedy that is often missed for violent and frequent hot flushes is Nux vomica because its particular type of flushing symptoms do not repertorise well in the Generals.
If someone has intense and sudden flushing - where they could throw themselves naked into the snow (remember the female lead in the movie Grumpy Old Men?) followed by profuse perspiration accompanied by urging to empty the bladder and possibly neuralgic pain throughout chest and body - followed by rapid and intense chilling that forces the person back under covers or into warmer than appropriate clothes - well, the remedy will often be Nux - I use a 200C in liquid doses as needed to relieve symptoms and there is normally dramatic improvement within 1 to a few days.
When we look at these symptoms, they are all Nux but in order to bring it out of the repertory you have to enter them as fever and chill symptoms - intense heat followed by profuse perspiration followed by chill with the concomitant of urging. Also confirmatory is if the person has the concomitant of irritability during the heat and sweat (not unusual with flushes of this intensity) or a history of pronounced irritability pre-menstrually.
I have seen women develop a brief period of chill with rigors on taking this remedy followed by the first reasonable night's sleep they have had in ages.
Hope this helps someone as hot flushes can be crippling and take years or decades to disappear.

Re: [H] Alcohol/menopause/anti-depressants]
I'll likely be shot for my opinion on this but here goes:
They occur after eating sugar (or other forms of carbohydrate that turn
to glucose in the blood that is not needed at the time
))
So that's one easy way to avoid them - change the diet:-)
In my opinion the hot flushes of "menopause" are a sign to the woman
that she no longer needs all those carbs and SHOULD change her diet. If
we used better biofeedback, we'd simply change diet to suit......
For the occasional goof-up, as we all do, a dose of Sepia 12C can be
handy first aid (assuming it matches, and it usually does).
I have a belief that menopausal hot flushes are not automatically a need
for remedy - but usually simply indicate a need to adapt to the physical
changes of the body. Menopause is not an illness - it's a change in the
body's physiology and biochemistry and needs to be respected as such -
and when that occurs, it has no adverse symptoms. It's women who insist
on living their life and diet as before with blinders on to the changes,
whose bodies rebel with hot flushes:-)
It's not called "The Change" for nothing:-)
Women need to change along with it.
See Christiane Northrup's book "The Wisdom of Menopause" for more good
ideas on respecting what's happening rather than fighting it.
Namaste,
IRene

Hi Irene,
I will take aim - I do not think you know what you are talking about here.
There are already many people making the changes you speak about - both the CHO's and Sepia - with limited effect.
I wonder what is wrong with all those women who are continue quite happily with their carbs through menopause with none of the effects you mention.
How can both groups be well?
Fran Sheffield.

Re: [H] Alcohol/menopause/anti-depressants]
not all women go through difficulties during menopause.
i, for one, barely knew it was happening. i dont believe
that hot flashes or any other problems are necessarily
normative. however, i do believe that nutritional imbalances
are significantly implicated. and i also believe that
homeopathy can correct dysfunctional body processes to
eliminate menopausal problems. in other words, there can
be several different types of causes for menopausal discomfort.
in each individual case
