Fatty Lipoma info needed

Post by CLBernat »

Does anyone have literature reference or experience with a protocol for fatty lipoma? I'm not finding much in the literature describing treatment.

Middle-age female with large (2 inches wide and 2 inches high) lipoma completely surrounding the rectum. Still able to pass feces. Says she can sit without too much discomfort, though she sits on left side of hip to relieve pressure. Lipoma resembles a large soft donut, faintly bluish in color. Woman very reluctant to submit to surgical procedure. She had a very poor reaction to anesthesia during hysterectomy 6 years ago. Tests reveal lipoma is benign. Other smaller fatty lipoma on neck and back. Some warts on legs. History of enlarged spleen.

Any information or references in literature would be appreciated. Thank you.

Samuel Lilienthal in "Homeopathic therapeutics" in the
chapter "Tumours" gives the following for "Lipoma":
Agar, Bar, Calc, Croc, Graph, Lap.alb, Phos, Phyt.

Knerr ( and Boericke) and others have rubrics like Lipoma, Tumors
Fatty etc.

Knerr and Boericke quote Agar, Amm.m, Bar.c, Bar.m,Bell, Calc.ars,
Calc, Croc, Graph, Lapis, Phos, Phytolacca, Thuja, Uric.ac.

I used Bar.c once for a man around 65 years with lipoma around neck -
did not work. I have used Graph successfully once for a woman with
strong Graph indications due to other symptoms...

My suggestion is not to confine yourself to the remedies in Lipoma
rubric, you know as well that provings were never pushed to the extent
of producing Lipoma in provings. Take the case in general and arrive
at a remedy- if the remedy also appears in Lipoma rubric - it just
confirms - even if it does not still the indicated remedy will work..
These remedies under this rubric are based on cured symptoms- and so
only partially indicative

If I were to handle the case I will enquire what lead to hysterectomy
and what lead to enlarged spleen- take the symptoms as they occurred
at that time- this woman has not been cured since that time... so the
symptoms that existed at that time would still be valid -

hysterectomy never solved anything and opened her up for further
pathology-

also find out what kind of reaction she had to anesthesia - some of
that picture might be relevant-

Looks like she has a tendency to go for organ pathology a lot - it is
this that you need to cure...

Anyhow even if it is lipoma - because of this bluish color around anus
- you can also refer to hemorrhoids with bluish color - Lach, Carbo
veg etc.

Get a more longitudinal picture than cross sectional -

Dear Carol,
While there is a lot on fatty lipomas, the bluish colour is what I found interesting.

Part II Haemorrhoids

Remedies found useful in the treatment of dilated veins, particularly of haemorrhoids

Haemorrhoids
Carbo vegetabilis

Discharge of an acrid, corrosive, viscid humor from the anus, causing much itching and some smarting; oozing of moisture from the perinaeum, with soreness and much itching; protruding large bluish varices, suppurating and offensive, with burning pains in the anus, stitching pains in the small of the back, burning and tearing in the limbs; constipation, with burning stools and discharge of blood; frequent determination of blood to the head, flatulence, slow action of the bowels; epistaxis; dysuria; especially called for in debauched, used-up subjects and in profound adynamia.
Muriaticum acidum

Piles suddenly, in children; the haemorrhoidal tumours are inflamed, swollen, bluish, with swelling of anal region, sore pains, violent stitches, and great sensitiveness to contact, even of the sheets; prolapsus recti while urinating.

Homoeopathic approach to a cancer patient

The constitutional remedies
Phytolacca decandra

Some clinical observations

* Affections of the breast, especially right

* Bluish red discolouration of the affected part

* Hard and painful nodes

* Obesity with rheumatic complaints

* Easy vomiting every few minutes with violent retching (during last stage of hepatic metastasis)

* Chronic hepatitis with continuous urging to pass stool

* Disposition to warts, boils, lipoma

The following pathology fits into the drug picture -

i. Abscess

ii. Cancer

iii. Fistulae

iv. Hypertrophy

v. Tumours

All the above pathology is characterised by sensitivity to pain: aggravation at menstrual period; hard painful nodosities. Even old scars and cicatrices when they break open one should think of Phytolacca along with drugs like Graphites, Silica and Thiosinaminum.

History of enlarged spleen.

Dear Carol,
Enlarged spleen, fatty deposits/lipoma are discussed in references below.

Lipoma cruris

A MARRIED lady, childless, carve under my care on August I, 1888, for a fatty tumour of the right thigh, near the vulva. Or rather she came under my care really for severe piles, " to avoid an operation, " she having heard that I did not think highly of operations. The piles having been cured, her husband enquired whether the fatty tumour could be likewise got rid of by medicines. I replied that I would try, saying that I would at any rate do her no harm.

Patient had often miscarried, and had had a polypus removed from the edge of the os uteri former years by operation. She remained long under my treatment, and finally gave it up from weariness; and she, did this the more readily as, though the lipoma is not gone, it is very greatly reduced in size.

When I took her in hand the tumour, coming exactly between the thickest part of the thighs, rendered ordinary walking very, difficult. This it no longer does, walking being now comfortable.

Has been four times vaccinated. Is liable to cystitis, which she has had three times. She has also had rheumatic fever and severe sciatica. Cupressus Lawsonianna, Thuja occid. and Sabina are the remedies that did the good.

Of all tumours, ivory osteomata and lipomata, and certain cystomata, I find the most difficult to touch.

The fatty tumours seem very indolent, and though I generally get them down about one-half or two-thirds, I do not succeed beyond that.

Fatty tumours appear to arise from friction, in this case from' the rubbing of the fleshy thighs against one another as witness the lipoma professionale of certain Russian women. Of course the friction is only the exciting cause, there is the neoplastic disposition behind. They are more common in women than in men, and I know several cases where the exciting cause is evidently due to the friction of the corsets.

I have sometimes thought that the disposition is of a syotic nature, but I have still an open mind on the subject, and await " more light. "

Tumors

Innocent tumors, semi-malignant tumors, cancerous tumors.

TUMORS in general are described by DUNGLISON to be "a rising, or prominence, of a greater or less size, developed by a morbific cause in some part of the body." I have italicized the concluding portion of this quotation, to show that the idea of a "local disease" is a visionary one.

The whole subject has been divided into three great classes - 1st, Innocent; 2nd, Semi-malignant; 3rd, Malignant.

Innocent tumors are sometimes known as "benign," or "non-malignant." We have three general varieties of these tumors - 1st, the encysted form; 2nd, those formed by a simple increase in size of already existing structures. These differ from simple hypertrophy, in having a distinct outline, and being prominent above the remainder of the part, involving only a portion. Hypertrophy, on the contrary, is a uniform enlargement of the whole part or limb, still retaining its proper shape. 3rd. Those formed by a growth of an existing structure, but never found normally in the situation occupied by the tumor. Among the first class we number the "atheromatous" and "cystic" tumors. Under the second, "warts," "polypi," "glandular," " fatty," "vascular," "nervous," and "bony" tumors. The third variety embraces the different "fibrous" tumors. Some of these, however, are semi-malignant, as will be shown in the second section.

This class of tumor derives its name of innocent, or benign, from the fact that they do not contaminate nor implicate neighboring structures, do not return after having been removed, and do not cause death or inconvenience, only (1st) when they compress vessels or canals, (2nd) when by their pressure the bones or other tissues in the vicinity are absorbed, and (3rd) when their great size and weight wear out the patient. The different varieties we will mention are eleven in number, as follows:-"Atheroma," "cysts," "warts," "condylomata," "sarcoma," "hœmatoma," "polypi," "glandular," " fatty," "fibro-cellular," and "fibrous."
8. Fatty Tumors.-These are the most common of all the forms of tumors, and constitute a very important class of these diseases. They may be found in nearly any part of the body, at almost any age, and of all sizes. The cause (remote) is usually obscure; a blow, the pressure of some article of clothing, as the suspenders, or any long-continued pressure will be usually found the exciting cause. A case I operated on three years ago had one on the shoulder that was congenital, and probably hereditary, as her mother had one of the same character. These tumors have been divided into two great classes: the "circumscribed," or true fatty tumors (lipoma), and the "adipose," or diffused. This last form is not a disease, nor is it a tumor, properly so-called. It is quite amenable to homœopathic treatment. It is nothing more than masses of fat in situations already sufficiently well supplied and distinguished from the normal quantity only by knotty protuberances not well defined in outline.

The true or "circumscribed" form has been divided into two varieties, the " lipoma," and "cholesteatoma." The former is the most common form of this tumor, and is made up of yellow, oily fat, and cellular tissue more or less firm, invested in a thin capsule, not adherent, but lying loosely and unattached. In form they are more or less lobulated, and not unusually send out irregular prolongations in different directions. Sometimes these lipoma slip down into other situations from that they originally occupied. Although these tumors are usually found to be unattached to the capsule or surrounding parts, it sometimes is found otherwise. A lady came under my care four years ago, with a lipoma on the cap of her right shoulder. She had been under the care of a "cancer doctor," and it being pronounced cancer, was "duly and legally cauterized" and poulticed. On removing the mass, the base and a portion of the edge was found to be tightly adherent to the skin and muscles, requiring considerable dissection to free it. This, perhaps, was to be credited to the "active treatment" she had undergone.

The cholesteatoma is "a smooth, laminated, white and dry fatty mass, contained in a cyst, and apparently composed of crystalline fat enclosed in meshes of cellular tissue."

Then some peculiar symptoms before and during the menses are reported for baryta, just as with the other earthy alkalies: toothache before the period (a symptom which the already mentioned magnesia has), moreover a thick white leukorrhea before the period, and sore throat during the menses.

Finally some clinical indications are given for baryta in the direction of the glandular organs and new formations. In hard, persistent goiter of torpid persons, baryta iodatum is preferred. The prostatic hypertrophy, as a similar degenerative glandular process with a slowly increasing hardness, adapts itself to the old age manifestations of baryta. Warts and lipoma are given as indications for baryta and are just as dark as their causal conditions. Though doubted, the report appears that baryta action should also underlie malignant tumors of the breast and pancreas.

History

Uric acid has been used on inferential grounds in gouty conditions. Burnett gave it in 5th and 6th potencies. It is most useful in cases where deposits persist, it stirs them up and helps to eliminate them. With Ur-ac. 3x.

Mersch cured a case of lipoma situated on the left side between abdomen and breast, "as large as a man's head, only lengthened." Relief was almost immediate, the tumor disappeared in a month.

Hi,
Olive oil is good for 99.9%
For this patient I suggest discontinuing Olive oil (if using)
for a month & see progress.
Reduce fat intake especially if it contains Omega-6.
Omega 3, is healthy, but not 6.
I am sure most will oppose, how can it be & so on.
Pls give it a try.
Baryta Carb is specific, may not work in many.

I did some internet research a while ago on fatty lipomas on dogs (my neighbor’s rather unhealthy dog had several) and found that they are considered to possibly be the body’s way of sequestering toxins in the system and getting them outside the body. What I saw suggested not removing them surgically, I believe. Homeopathic remedies would be a different story, of course. Any thoughts on that, anyone? Teresa (Northern VA)

Hi Teresa,

according to some literature (I do not know how well that had been
researched, but still), it is specifically animal FAT where the toxins
are found. This could mean that it is a way of the body generally,
i.e. not only in animals raised for slaughter, i.e. also in humans,
to get rid of on-water soluble toxins, i.e. those that cannot be
discharged by the urine.

Thus people loosing weight, i.e. burning fat, may have a very heavy
load of toxins from that fat circulating in their bodies. There is
even a possibility that people who, for one reaason or other, cannot
get discharge their toxins, get fat - the fat deposits in this case
being a compensatory measure of the body. This also goes for people
who have a problem loosing weight - the system may not want to do so.

Luise
