missing emails off topic

I posted on this a while ago, and am still having trouble - other
people must have it happening as well. I know Rochelle posted last
time, to say something similar was happening for her. Would love it
if anyone has enough computer knowledge so they understand what is
happening.

For some reason both Irene's and Shannon's posts don't make it to my
inbox - I can see them posted on the message board when I visit
because I guess they've posted when people reply to them.

Rochelle says she finds Irene's posts in her Spam folder, and doesn't
have trouble with Shannon's. Now I know that a spam folder is the
same as Junkmail - but the posts don't even make it to my Junkbox.

My ISP said contact Yahoo - Yahoo says it's nothing to do with them
and to contact my email provider. I'm guessing my email provider is
Hotmail, because that's who my account goes through - but how do you
contact Hotmail? There doesn't seem to be a way to do it.

Does anyone know anything about this?

My emals are often blocked for no good reason but because I have my
personal website at Angelfire.
Angelfire is a place anyone could set up a website for free for many
years, and mine has been there at least ten years.
However some weirdos also have free websites there, and some ISPs -
notably Aol for example - will block any email containing the word
"angelfire" anywhere in the email. It's as bad as blocking yahoo or
gmail or any other biog group where you get valid and weirdo things in
the same general area.

Mine is frequently blocked because of the "angelfire" in my signature
lines. At the moment aol is not blocking it, they do it arbitrarily
however so that can change any time - and so do other ISPs.
Your ISP is blowing hot air - THEY alone can block them.
Yahoo does not, or nobody would get them:-)
Hotmail (like aol) is indeed on the list of providers that use
non-standard blanket blocking of domains (like angelfire) any time they
feel like doing so.
No doubt that's also intentional:-)
Who do you pay money to monthly for internet access?
THEY should be able to follow up?

are unable to receive the messages you have sent

We would need you to check on your end or with your moderator and

Windows Live Hotmail Technical Support".....

I can't see any messages about bounce status on my account details at
the moment, I know it has happened previously. I am able to receive
my own posts back, - it seems to be a selective blocking with the
messages just disappearing.

I am sorry to learn that you are having problems.

I have forwarded your post to Dr Shahrdar. He is the only person who can
advise what is happening on any bounced msgs.

I seem to be having this problem also. A number of times I have seen a response to a posting where the original posting did not come through. Just thought I'd let you know Gail is not the only one with this problem.

Gail, Did you get the message you asked me to send you off list?
I did not get a bounce message, so you should have got it?

By the way, on most lists, depending how the owner set them up, you can
actually check your own bounce messages (as the moderator could) by
going to the Minutus website and looking at your bounce status (in your
membership area under "members").

Hi Gail,

it happens to all - or at least quite a few - of us, off and on.

E. g. I just read a reply to a post I never received. Has happened
often before. Also that emails of mine do not get posted.

Since this seems to happen with all and sundry providers I should
think that the problem is at Yahoo.

Hi Irene,

Only just found your message here a bit by accident. Thank you for
following up - I didn't get an off list email from you, so I need to
check - did you send it as a reply to mine or as a new message? And
also Shannon, I don't know if you tried to reply off list - because
if you did it didn't get through either.

Yes I checked my bounce status already - it was the first thing I
looked at when I realised that not all the messages are making it
through, and I've had that bounce problem before - have yet to
discover the difference between a soft bounce and a hard bounce.
There is currently no record that I can see of anything bouncing on
my membership information, but I wasn't sure if the moderator had
access to more information about bounces etc.

For anyone else who is interested, I have checked already with Yahoo
who say they don't think it has anything to do with them. My email
account is with Hotmail which is actually Windows Live - I did find
out how to contact them and they do seem to be taking some sort of
responsibility. My ISP say it is not anything to do with them because
I haven't set up an email account with them which is the only way I
could turn their spam filters on.

sending this one via list *and* privately; I wonder whether you'll get

Trouble getting posts is not entirely off-topic, IMO. Esp.
since you're not the only one experiencing it. (I have sometimes
missed posts too, tho haven't followed thru to notice if it's only
certain people.)

I moderate a few lists - owner can only check the same bounces as a list
member. (A member can only check their own, and a list owner can check
any member's bounces from THAT list.) Bounce messages might bnot be
available - for example if the bouncing status is invoked by an email

Soft/Hard/Reactivation Bounce explanation for Yahoo groups emails:

Soft bounce: This means Yahoo sent a message to you and got a
"non-fatal" error message such as "server busy" or "account full" or
some such message that can be expected to come right later. In that
case, they do not deliver the message which "soft bounced" but Yahoo
will continue to try to send future emails to you from any yahoo group.
Hard bounce: This means that Yahoo sent the message to you and got a
"fatal" error message such as "no such account" or "Account closed" or
other message code referring to something they expect will not be fixed
later. In this case they put your Yahoo email account for ALL lists in
bounce status - which means they stop sending ALL list email to you -
and they list the error message only at the first list where it happened
- but they stop sending you emails from ALL lists.
Reactivation: A week or so later after bounce status is invoked (not
sure of this timing currently) Yahoo will automatically try to
reactivate your account at Yahoo by sending a probe. If that probe comes
back with a positive response (showing a working email address again)
they will reinstate your email out of bounce status automatically, and
start sending you emails again. They do this even for hard bounces, as
there are a lot of silly reasons for a hard bounce message. For example
your ISP might have been off line due to a storm or whatever for a few
seconds/hours, and then the message would be "no such account" when
indeed you do have an account.
I agree (and with what your ISP says). So - It will likely be Hotmail -
they are rather notorious for this unfortunately.
Have you considered using email through your ISP instead?
