Abortion

Post by Soroush Ebrahimi »

The MOTHERING instinct is one of the strongest of all including human
instincts. If the mother wishes and or decides to destroy her unborn, there
most be reasons!!

(That is why the woman often suffers severe guilt afterwards)

So please lady colleagues, help us 'mortal men' to come to terms with and
understand what might possess a woman to destroy her unborn baby. (Do we
see this in the animal kingdom, or are humans unique in this?)

having had both children and abortions, i can assure you that all women do not suffer guilt. there are many reasons for terminating pregnancy. in the usa, finances, physical ability to care for an infant at a given point in ones life, illness are some of the major reasons for such a decision. all of these reasons are valid. I think you would have to find an open-ended way of asking about the reasons for such a decision and monitor whatever feelings you may possess about her choice.

Hi Soroush - yes, it happens in the animal kingdom..but not until after
offspring are born (to my knowledge). Some animals will eat their young
(male and female I beleive - depending on type of animal). I can't say I've
ever heard of animals trying to terminate a pregancy (by eating something
bad for them or whatever an animal might do *if* an urge hit them....). Hard
to even think of a scenario really.
Makes me really think....and wonder though
good discussion;),

Dear Soroush,

There are many instances in other species, both pre and post natally, of
parents abandoning or killing offspring when conditions are wrong for their
survival, for many different reasons. As a friend of mine is fond of
saying, "Life is very slippery." Very true. We find this horrifying
whenever we encounter it, but I suspect it's way too complex and nuanced to
even begin to discuss here without finding ourselves sliding into a morass
complicated with religion, philosophy and politics -- far from homeopathy.
Suffice it to say that the wish for abortion may or may not be pathological,
depending on the surrounding conditions and affects.

OK examples:-

When the father of tyhe child says
a) I will have nothing more to do with you if you have the child
b) If you have this child I will have nothing to do with it
c) I will pay for the abortion but won't pay for the maintenance

d)When the mother is from a religious family which foirbids sex before marriage and the prospective mother is not married

e)After a rape

And so I could go on. However I believe we should not be party to an abortion. In fact this is in the Society of Homeopathy Code of Ethics.

What does happen is that a woman comes along for a remedy when she is pregnant and then has a miscarriage. On the follow up you find out that the patient didn't want the baby for some reason or other.

Dear Rosemary

In terms of a wider discussion, apart from when the life of the mother may
be at risk, when is the wish for abortion not a pathological disorder and
'anti-instinct'?

In all of the examples, some kind of a pressure has gotten the better of her
maternal instincts.

Why?

it would be better not to mince words. it is not a pathology [medicinally
treatable], it is a moral
delinquency - murder. The male partner who does not support the birth is
also culpable. if there are financial problems - after birth - [ie after the
child is rescued from the claws of the murdering abortionists], adoption is
feasible. it is very common in various cultures - eg polynesian - for
siblings, grandmothers to 'borrow' a child to raise up. sometimes a baby is
conceived expressely for this purpose. these cultures make little
distinction between 'sister' and 'cousin' or 'aunt' and 'grandmother,' or
second cousin etc. The problem is the death of the extended family,
however this does not excuse murder. There is no reason for homeoapths to
follow the allopahs in betraying the hippocratic oath.

dear soroush, how i love being lectured to by a man about the mothering
instinct of women. how would you know anything about it? about abortion,
just a few words: if women do not control our own bodies, we control
nothing. that is it. period. and since in homeopathy we treat the whole
patient, i think that talking about sexism and misogyny is very relevant to
homeopathy. and i did not even mention earlier domestic violence, rape of
all kinds, incest, and the sex trade. others have already told you about
some of the reasons why women have abortions. sheila

dear rochelle, could you please tell me what the society of homeopathy code
of ethics is and where i could find it. it sounds even worse than
allopathic medicine, where doctors are indeed allowed to be present at
abortions and to do them. i am appalled to hear this. i was taught several
remedies that would help a woman during and after an abortion. i hope i
have a chance to use them. thanks, sheila
