TETANUS PROPHYLAXIS

Post by Farbod RAHNAMAI CHITSAZ »

Dear Rafy
Contaminated wounds are the sites where tetanus bacteria multiply. Deep wounds or those with devitalized (dead) tissue are particularly prone to tetanus infection.

Puncture wounds such as those caused by nails, splinters, or insect bites are favorite locations of entry for the bacteria. The bacteria can also be introduced through burns, any break in the skin, and injection-drug sites. Tetanus can also be a hazard to both the mother and newborn child (by means of the uterus after delivery and through the umbilical cord stump).

The potent toxin which is produced when the tetanus bacteria multiply is the cause of the harm in this disease.

The bacteria needs dead tissue to grow, in superficial wounds , there is not enough dead tissue for this anaerobe bacteria to grow. Oxygen prevent this bacteria to grow, then if the bacteria itself enter the blood stream there would be no harm.
You can find Remedies for prophilaxy in radar:

3/ If the wound heals perfectly - is it an indication to stop taking the prophylactic remedy?
Yes, the cause of tetanus is the toxin which secreted by the bacteria which has an anaerob circumstance to grow.
