In the next issue of Homeopathy in Practice (Journal of alliance of
Registered Homeopaths) there will be an overview of the history, claims,
theory etc of various bioresonance type and Voll type machines. Also some
articles on the physics and chemistry of homeopathy. Email address is
info@a-r-h.org. It's a subscription journal but it may be possible to get
hold of an individual copy in March. Otherwise I expect much of it will
turn up on the website when it gets sorted out properly.

I know several people who use these machines and I myself use a Vegatest to
help me advise on diet and environmental 'maintaining causes' in much the
same way that a kinesiologist might muscle test. I have found it invaluable
and would not be without it. My colleagues cannot understand why I do not
use the machine to help choose remedies and select potency (something else
that kinesiologists often do). I have thought about this (and have tried
occasionally) but have never been happy about it.

How we receive a case influences what we are told, observation of the
patient and of our own response to the patient are very much part of it.
Although we are there as objective observers we are also an integral part of
the process, so we are observing ourselves, our patient and our interaction.
The use of a diagnostic machine re-defines the nature of the consultation in
this and it also shifts the emphasis of the diagnosis onto organ and
meridian function. This approach can be very useful in many cases but is
only one of many ways into a case open to a homeopath. Once the machine is
introduced I suspect the other doors would close and be hard to re-open.

In terms of treatment as opposed to diagnosis, again, although our remedies
have independent validity/effectiveness. we will often be giving our
patients more than that. How often have you noticed that a patient feels
much better after a consultation but before the remedy arrives in the post!
Many of our patients have been subjected to tests and diagnoses ad nauseam
and really appreciate being listened to and being placed at the centre of
their own 'case'. Also I have on occasion been asked to deal with
aggravations following the use of a bioresonance machine and I just haven't
known where to begin because the formal framework for understanding what the
machine has been doing is not there.

Finally, even if this technology is the way of the future in remedy
manufacture, until we are clearer about the way it works and the standards
of manufacture required I feel we are taking a gamble relying on the machine
producing the exact remedy and potency required. They can appear work, I
know, but so can all sorts of other things, paper remedies, 'telephoned'
remedies etc and , as I commented above, consultations without remedies at
all!
