It seems rather difficult to know or gauge what is a normal and
healthy response for a woman's pregnancy, isn't it?
How much of the woman's symptoms is related to acute or chronic, and
that simply to the changes the woman undergoes during pregnancy? And
what symptoms or the severity of symptoms (i.e. nausea), show that the
VF could use some assistance?
I'm not making any statements, merely questions that I continue to ask
myself. The woman I am helping, Puls 200C helps dramatically with the
migraine headaches, restless sleep, and fatigue but little with nausea.
Perhaps move up to 1M? Look closer at Sepia, Nat Mur, Colch, or
Phosphorus?
Shannon, can you share with me more of what is a 'collapsed'
Phosphorus state? I'm attempting to compare and differentiate the
above remedies.
IMHO I believe that this woman's VF needs help, as the constant,
moderately severe nausea, among other symptoms, seem too strong of a
reaction to the pregnancy.
In spite of the limited success, now I am getting her pregnant friends
contacting me. I am sending or pleading to most of them that they see
experienced, professional homeopaths.
Any ideas or advice regarding present client or pregnancy in general?
Kindly,
Preston

Re: what is a healthy and unhealthy response to pregnancy?
Hi Preston,
Yes, all important questions!!
First, note that I think I said "common", rather than "normal and
healthy", which may be quite different! But when a symptom is
*common* to a given situation, then it's not so useful for
repertorizing. How far along is she? I should have asked.
Great! If I remember right, tho, the benefit of a 200c held only for a
couple of weeks, and after that the problems return pretty much as
before. Is that accurate, or did I misunderstand or misremember?
Evaluating the *response* to each dose of a remedy can be tricky, and I
would love to hear others' thoughts about the situation. But from my
(again limited) experience, and from my understanding, the action of a
200c should carry on much longer than two weeks, *even* during
pregnancy--and pregnancy is a time when remedies may be "used up" more
quickly than usual. Also, if the remedy is acting *curatively*, there
should be some degree of improvement remaining when the dose wears off.
(Tho perhaps it might take more than a single dose to produce lasting
permanent improvement? I'm not actually certain on that one.)
That was my thinking when I launched straight into looking at other
remedy possibilities. But also it didn't especially *sound* like Puls
to me, and especially I'm not aware that Puls is known for developing
aversion to her own child! To my mind that is a "gotta have it"
symptom for the situation.
Okay, here's some from Roger Morrison's "Desktop Prescriber". The last
paragraph is specifically about (what I called) the "collapsed" state.
" As one of our most important polycrest remedies, Phosphorous must
be clearly understood in a variety of stages of pathology. It is
interesting that none of our past homeopathic masters recognized the
true center of this remedy until Vithoulkas. The essence as described
by Vithoulkas is "diffusion" - like the bubbles from a carbonated
drink. It is often seen that Phosphorous patients are bubbly and
out-going or extroverted. The patient seems to "sparkle" with
intelligence, creativity, and enthusiasm. However the patient seems to
have no strong boundaries between himself and others; he is not
grounded or centered. He is extremely sympathetic and can become
involved with even strangers. Once he turns his attention to another
project he may forget all about this stranger he befriended, thus he
may appear "flighty". He loves company. He can be gullible and
suggestible. He may even be clairvoyant.
There are prices to be paid for these poor boundaries. In the
first stages of pathology in Phosphorous, we find great anxiety. Any
idea may enter his mind and be a cause for anxiety. However, he is also
easily reassured. Generally the anxiety takes the form of concern about
health. But as the pathology worsens the patient has more and more
"free-floating anxiety" and the fear that something bad will happen.
The patient has many fears, especially of things which are symbolic of
his lack of boundaries such as darkness, deep water, death, etc. These
fears may develop into a debilitating phobic state. Especially, these
fears come when the patient is alone, and are better in company.
In later stages the patient is so sensitive to others and to
outside stimulation that the well-known desire for company is lost. The
patient prefers to be alone and is intolerant of strangers or of
hearing of other's problems. As more and more of the inner vitality is
lost, so also is lost the "bubbly" and sparkling nature. Eventually the
patient becomes slow and indifferent and apathetic, much like
Phosphoric acid or Sepia."
Blackwood adds: "It is of service in BRAIN FAG and SOFTENING OF THE
BRAIN. The patient feels tired and dreads mental exertion. There is a
sensation of coldness in the head. He answers questions slowly, and
there is a mental fatigue and apathy."
I quite agree!! And again I wish I remembered how far along you said
she is...
) A ringing endorsement, and good for you!!
But yeah, a problem for you if you are not ready to take it on...
Do you have any of the "about pregnancy" homeopathy books?
Because one important issue is to know what's common to the state, so
that you can better identify what's peculiar! For repping and analysis
purposes.
Gian--would you like to say more about your suggestion of sepia?
(Which I agree seems reasonable; it would be good to get a deeper
comparison of how her state compares with each...)
Best,
Shannon

My view on this is that a homeopathic remedy cannot provide a missing
nutrient, no matter how well it matches as simillimum and no matter how
well the potency is chosen.
Pregnancy uses a very different ratio of nutrients than normal
womanhood, and nausea is merely a deficiency symptoms, usually of Vit B6
(pyridoxine hydrochloride) and possibly magnesium which is relevant to
absorption of B6, and to nerve health which affects stress levels.
Have you analysed the food consumed in a 24 hr period to see if it
even meets the rather minimal requirements of the USDA's idea of
recommended nutrients? so many pregnant women THINK they are eating a
good diet when in fact it is missing several nutrients in proper
amounts. One has to analyse to know for sure.
One can do this using the USDA food database (google it), to know what
nutrients are in which food, in what quantity.
It's not as simple as that sounds however because many things deplete
nutrients especially Vit B6 - smoking and coffee to name just two. B6 is
also a nutrient for adrenal sufficiency so any stress will deplete it.
So maybe a nutritional issue is what's missing here, and a little
detective work might find it?
A healthy pregnancy goes along very nicely with no illness symptoms!!!
Diet is in my view a HUGE issue - in people and animals, during
pregnancy. We have all been taught incorrectly (thanks to big company
interests, especially grain companies) as to what is truly healthy.
Remedy matching constittuional-type also in my view can be very helpful
to get a pregnancy back on track.
Namaste,
Irene
