Ars and Sarsaparilla are more indicated in children - for dryness -

Sars also works in nutritional deficiencies...

I guess you might have already looked at the skin, dryness like
parchment - rubrics....

How long? How did it start?

Any tuberculosis anywhere in the family? Does the child look tubercular?

How about sweat( TB, Syphilis both have sweat gland affinity)...

Vitamin A might be one possibility? (And some people require the fish
oil variety, not beta caroiene.)

Thank you everyone – I have looked at allergies and am still doing so. The EFAs sound a good bet and the water, of course.

Ounces per pound, I presume rather than per stone, kilo etc etc. My first prescription was actually alumina but I didn’t know about alumina phos – so thanks for that, too.

Thanks all, again. I hadn’t really intended doing a case and was more interested in nutritional/genetic possibilities – but here goes…

He is 8 months old and the dryness started within a month of birth almost certainly before his BCG jab. I asked about TB but the mother didn’t know much about the father’s sri lankan family. Her own mother said there was none in her family. Mother herself had had ring worm. Not sweaty. Has cradlecap. Baby was fed on dairy and breast milk and other stuff that I couldn’t quite find out what it was. Should be on a rotation/exclusion diet now. Had also been taking daily paracetemols for the itching and loads of a/bs. Has stopped now.

He can be constipated with blackish stools but not always. He has a few times had pus coming out of his ear – I think it was probably infected eczema. He has some ayurvedic oils that help a bit with the skin but not much. At the last appointment I prescribed arsenicum ( he is quite a fastidious 8 month year old) but am having trouble getting in touch to find out what is happening. They ring me when I am out and I ring them and get people who don’t speak English!

Never considered sarsaparilla but will now. I know that dry skin and eczema go together and quite possibly that is all there is to it but you could almost file your nails on this lad’s skin. I did suggest some other oils including coconut and in fact we did discuss EFAs now I come to look at the notes. I usually recommend a 3,6,9 combo.

The case taking is really hard work due to the language problem but I will keep you informed of any progress.
