Parkinson's?

Post by Shannon Nelson »

Does anyone here have experience in treating Parkinsons disease?
In Morrison's "Desktop Companion" he says that it is "...one of the
most difficult conditions to treat homeopathically, responding
curatively in only rrae cases. Frequently, however, the patient can
benefit from treatment. In cases under homeopathic treatment, the
patient may have a much longer response to L-DOPA than patients not on
homeopathy.... "

He continues:
"Best results come in cases which begin treatment very early in the
course of the disease (as opposed to early after diagnosis, which may
not take place until years after symptoms begin).... If possible in th
early stages, it is more beneficial to use antihistamines for relief of
symptoms while the attempt at homeopathic treatment is made.
the condition. We use daily doses of low potency remedies, 6c or 12c,
once, twice, or three times per day. LM potencies also have a place in
such cases.

He continues that the effectiveness of the remedy may begin to fall off
after only perhaps a month or two, but "... it is extremely unlikely
that a 'close but incorrect remedy' will have any effect at all in such
advanced pathology. we should not easily switch remedies after such a
[initially good] response."

Some of her present symptom picture is new:
- ***SEVERE*** trouble sleeping. When she lies down, she becomes so
extremely uncomfortable; some nights she can't lie still for more than
a minute or two, before beginning to thrash (if you can call it
"thrashing" when someone is so weak!), whereupon she gets tangled in
the blankets and shrieks for help. Periodically needs to stand, which
- extremely weak, needs help in just about everything now--tho the
weakness had been coming on for some time
- worsening of coordination in hands

But some of it is just a huge worsening of very old patterns:
- a sort of "delusion, persecuted" thing. The least mistake (or even
failing to adequately read her mind!) can set her off on a huge,
furious, bitter, even vicious rant. She will go on about how "It's not
worth it to be nice to people", i.e. people who have done something
inconvenient to her; she insists that if you're "nice" to people, they
won't hear you, won't take you seriously, and won't do what you want
them to. (So instead she verbally disembowels all of the hired
nighttime helpers, who naturally tend to refuse to return, sigh. Most
of the few that were willing to return, she has refused to have back
again anyway.) This "It's not worth it to be nice to people" thing has
been there for decades, but used to come up only during times of
frustration, not as a permanent feature.

Of course there is MUCH more to the case, but right now I'm only
looking for general thoughts and experience.

For a long time I've been trying to work out what remedy might fit that
last--thus far without luck. Presently I've been thinking about
veratrum and hyos, and notice hyos in Roger's list of "Other remedies
to consider in Parkinson's disease".

Anyway, mostly I would love to hear any experiences with it.
Also I am wondering--can I assume that if I find "the right remedy"
there should be some observable effect in the first day/night, or not
necessarily?
Thanks!
Shannon

Hi Shannon,

I have been treating a man with Parkinson's for the past two years. Came to
me at an advanced stage - using a wheelchair and occasionally a walking
frame - on allo meds.

Started on Rhus-t which served him well for over a year - all symptoms
better for ongoing movement. Within 3 weeks of commencing treatment he was
able to make an overseas trip by himself of some weeks duration - this would
have been impossible prior to the remedy.

Did not see him for about 6 months as he had a fall, was hospitalised and
decided to continue with increasing doses of his meds. Returned to me about
5 months ago with frequent falling, incontinence, wheelchair bound, unable
to talk - communicated by slow typing into a computer.

Prescribed Calc-c as indicated by presenting symptoms (also relationship
with Rhus-t). Is now able to leave wheelchair and walk down stairs slowly,
with difficulty. Balance improved. No longer incontinent of urine or faeces.
When I last saw him he was able to talk to me with difficulty but without
the computer. Still only using homeopathy as an adjunct to his allopathic
treatment so obviously his real symptom picture is disturbed by his meds.

Entered a nursing home for a month while his wife went overseas to visit
family and after a week his daughter contacted me to fax the nursing home a
script and directions for his homeopathic medicine as they would not give it
without these and his ability to talk and walk had begun to deteriorate
again - was taking Calc-c 6C, 3 x week in liquid doses. Improved upon
recommencing remedy. Currently on Calc-c 30C but only needing a weekly
dose - more frequent has aggravating effects.

Obviously homeopathy is improving this man's Parkinson's and his wife
reports slow but continual progress from appointment to appointment but how
far it will take him I do not know. May also be difficult to make future
prescriptions if the remedy needs to be changed as so much of his symptom
picture is altered by the allopathic medicines - I consider myself lucky
that I have been able to see enough to make two good prescriptions.

Thank you, that's so encouraging!!!
Do you recall how quickly his response to the remedies became
clear--whether it was within the first day or two, or whether it needed
a longer time to show?
