Congenital abnormalities and Autism

Post by Jean Doherty »

Child 10 who has survived enormous problems and became autistic.
In the history mum had an episode of very high fever while traveling
overseas and lay prostrated in bed for several days in less than
ideal circumstances.
Going on he theory that that virus might have caused the severe
abnormalities and the state seemed to be Gelsemium would it be
reasonable to prescribe the same. Would that be following advice in
Repertorium Virosum.??? I did some months ago give a dose of
Gelsemium 200c and advised occasional use if anxiety present . I am
told by E-mail it did not help but not sure as told family getting
by. Thinking about it I probably should have advised more
frequent water doses of say 6c. The use of LMs eludes me.
Difficult to follow up as families in this situation barely get
by . Best Wishes Jean

Dear Jean,
Do you know the symptoms of the mother during pregnancy in detail? What kinds of congenital abnormalities are present? If you send these symptoms, I can analyze the case with Repertorium Virosum to see what is the closest related miasm.
The miasms commonly responsible for congenital abnormalities and physico-psychological retardations are
RBL (Rubella)
CMV (Cytomegalovirus infection)
MMP (Mumps)
RV (Reoviral infections)
EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis)
WEE (Western Equine Encephalitis)

Gelsemium is not a good simillimum for any of the above dynamic states (It is one of the simillimums for NPH (Nipah), PIV (Para-infuenza), PLV (Polio), STLE (Saint Louis Encephalitis), TBE (Tick Borne Encephalitis) and WNE (West Nile Encephalitis) which usually do not lead to congenital abnormalities).
Kind regards,
Ardavan

No just that there was fever prostration and I think lack of thirst. She lay like that or several days. I was aware of the importance of this illness but had not your research at hat time It is difficult as there is some suspicion of homeopathy [some bad experiences elsewhere] Some years ago this child was helped greatly by Opium 30c,called them her happy pills, relevant for her very ill powerless times then they stopped helping. I did give Mum Rhus Tox to cover the suspicion and anxiety about child and I did get word recently that it had helped her [ the Mum]
Mum is studying and moving house and just can not cope with homeopathy at the moment. It requires observation and co-operation. At some time I believe I will get a chance again and wish to be prepared. Also then will try to learn more about this illness. I do think your approach would be useful. Your pdf download has good search mechanisms. Not sure what a reoviral is?? Thank you so much for help.
Interested also in HSV2 and Ng back of mouth, sore ears a big problem before surgery and again now. Checking repertory just now ?? Petr as some skin problems. All very interesting !!Thank you.
Best Wishes Jean

Dear Jean,
Now we have a key point!
Our previous list was:
RBL (Rubella)
CMV (Cytomegalovirus infection)
MMP (Mumps)
RV (Reoviral infections)
EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis)
WEE (Western Equine Encephalitis)

These cover the general psycho-physical retardation.
Oesophageal atresia is only seen in reoviral miasm esp RV3. Reoviral infections can cause different types of congenital abnormalities, different atresia, they can affect the nervous system.... The primary infection in the mother can be subclinical and with few symptoms. The mother might have been infected by a reoviral infection leading to fever and prostration. It is interesting to know that they may produce very limited symptoms during primary infection!
Now what is expected from the treatment here? Of course there are some static changes that can not respond to homeopathic treatment but the dynamic alteration may still persist which need to be treated. The psychological problems can be solved by homeopathy.
The remedies related to Genus Epidemicus of RV3 are:
BELL, SULPH, MERC, CALC, Rhus-t, Lyc, Ars, Acon, Bry, Nux-v and Puls.
What is now needed is individualization of the patient and choosing a remedy that covers both this list and the result of repertorization.
You are the best one to decide for individualization as you have seen the child but with self harm aspects, anxiety,... maybe Ars can be a good choice but consider the above list and I think that you can still work on the individualization. The point is just to take the dynamic 'live' symptoms and not to take the rubrics related to the outcome of static damage and secondary reactions to the underlying anxiety. I beleive that this case needs LMs with repetitions.
Warm regards,
Ardavan

Interesting ? I think to revise the whole case, we need to consider some characteristic Individual symptom presentation.. Objective and more closely looking at Subjective symptoms.. may help to be more fair with our proscription ? I had not been on line for some time.. Accompanying symptoms here may guide us to something which otherwise we can miss out ?

This child's mood and tendency to self harm improved on Pulsatilla. Some months later I gave Sulphur [was spending a lot of time alone in her room with her records and collections ]which I believe helped]. Mother sent an E-mail about her and other siblings. after Xmas.
xxx and xxx are their usual happy selves and "aaaaa well.''.. she is wonderful! She often writes entertaining notes about either the Chilli Peppers, Duran Duran or Bratz dolls on You tube. I found this one recently:
F stands for Friendship
O stands for Occupy
R stands for Restfulness
E stands for Evolution
V stands for Valve
E stands for Endless
R stands for Relieve

best wishes to all of you, xxxx
Thank you Jean
