[hpe] Urgent: FDA Guidance for CAM Products and Regulations
Re: [hpe] Urgent: FDA Guidance for CAM Products and Regulations
When something is 'passed' it is then sent to various departments to write the rules and regulations, then proceeds to be enacted. This process can take take weeks or years depending on the government department.

Re: [hpe] Urgent: FDA Guidance for CAM Products and Regulations
Ok Irene I respect your views but you have more freedoms then you are giving credit for. My husband and I moved to 25 acres in the mountains so we could raise our own food free of all this nasty stuff you mentioned. I moved here so I could own more than 4 cats and 2 dogs. I moved here so I could have an acre garden and grow our own vegetables and herbs for medicine. I had the free right to do that. We made sacrifices to make it happen, yes I could be making more money still running our business in Chicago but what is more important? We decided enough was enough when the home owners association said we could not have more than 2 cars parked in our driveway. There are stupid rules everywhere.
People still have the right to train as a homeopaths/naturopaths and help their own family and pets as I am doing and have done. I have the right to not immunize if I choose to do so, there are religious/ personal and medical exemptions for immunizations. There are titers for animals so they don’t have to get immunization of rabies again and again.
I understand and am angered by our “freedoms” being removed daily but you also have the ability to do something about some of them. If everyone stopped buying the almonds, maybe the laws would change. I am hopeful but not stupid. I do feel it is a free country and would not want to be anywhere else.
I hope and pray someone will wise up about CAM and I am certainly trying to do my part but there are always choices on what products we use or not use, just as well as there are choices about where people live.

Take "raw almonds" for example.
They are not what you think - and you have no choice about it. The FDA
has decreed that they WILL be "pasteruized". (and you should see what
THEY call "pasteurization"!
That of course destroys their health benefits from delicate easily
oxidized essential fatty acids - especially omega-9 and other
monounsaturated fatty acids for example. the FDA's "excuse" is that they
might otherwise carry salmonella. Well we do NOt have the freedom to
choose to take the salmonella risk and eat genuine fresh raw almonds.
Where did our freedom to choose go on that one?
Nor does FDA care that we get genetically modified food mixed in with
the normal kind - complete with genetically produced insecticides etc.
The grain companies like Monsanto persuaded the FDa that the GM stuff is
"essentially the same" and the FDA bought it and unlike Europe - they
let it all get mixed together.
WE have no freedom of choice in that!
Do you REALLY think people have the freedom to choose a veterinary
homeopath for their pets? Or a people homeopath for their own health? Do
hyou really tbhink a homeopath can openly hang a shingle just anywhere
in USa and practise openly?
If so you are dreaming. There is no such freedom.
Nor is there freedom of choice to avoid rabies vaccines for totally
indoor pets with zero risk of rabies.
What kind of freedom of choice is that?
As a cat breeder I may not own more than 4 cats. What kind of freedom of
choice is that?
My grandson was paralysed for 2 weeks after a polio vaccine he had no
choice about - it was just done at school one day - with his mother told
- do it or he is tossed out of school.
Freedom?????
I could go on all night- it's crazy to think this is a free country.
If you try to bring your kids up holistically they are taken away from
you by child services!!!
That's "freedom"?????
No way.
This country is anything but free!!!
It's all lip-service and hype.
Now the FDA is going along with the latest big pharma long-term plans
(started in the mid-90s to "get rid of the competition from alternative
medicine" by FIRST putting CODEX in place - witout public involvemwetn -
the control rules world-wide so as to disallow overseas loophole
suppliers - and THEN (now) to add in the rules to put everything we need
on prescription by allopaths who know nothing about it.
That's ALL part of "getting rid of the competition from alternative
medicine".
Hills Science Diet and Bayer did the original study and spent if I
remember around 6 million bucks to decide how best to "get rid of the
competition from alternative medicine". One next step was a
collaboration between 8 companies in big pharma and big pet food
manufacture - with AVMA - in which their products would be promoted in
return for HUGE funding of plans over many years to get rid of the
competition - for example by promoting new "proposed veterinary practise
laws" (which force alternative medicine practitioners out of business)
and lobbying to get them into law ion each state - which they have done
with success in several states already.
They came up with a long-term plan and steps along the way - and they
are inexorably going ahead with it - under our very noses - while naiive
consumers pretend it is not happening (out of disbelief or whatever excuse.)
How is all that freedom of choice?
It's money that HAS changed it.
Grain companies like Monsanto are the money that hid the GM in our food.
Drug and food companies are behind the concerted effort to get rid of
the competition from alternative health. That's BIG money.
And what about the disgusting tactics these people use to pass laws at
3am when the opponents are home asleep?
Like S.3546 for example?
You probably never even heard there was going to be a law - much less
had the freedom of choice to comment on it as is supposed to happen in a
Republic!
S.3546 is the the "Dietary Supplement and Nonprescription Drug Consumer
Protection Act" and "Adverse Event Reporting" bill.
This new law pretty much reverses the effects of the hard-won DSHEA act
of 1994 which was designed to protect access to supplements and
remedies. Thank Sen Dick Durbin for the dastardly S.3546.
It was defeated TWICE at congressional level and then they devised the
midnight scheme to get it through:
1.03am Brief debate in house.1.42am YEas and nays called for.
Vote was a clear no and many opponenets of the bill went home - assuming
it was well defeated.
3am Head count called to ensure the yea/nay had indeed defeated the
bill. Officially there's a five minute time limit for contring votes and
at that poinmt the vote was no.
But BArton continued on till the head count was such that those still
present could make the bill pass - een thouigh 100 congreemen has
specifically votred against it earlier.
Nor did it go to a hearing as it should have done. It was just sneaked
through, and our dear President Bush duly signed it into law.
This is American Freedom of choice??????
S3546 was the first step in the FDA fully controlling and regulating all
supplements. Well it's in place and nobody asked YOUR opinion as a
citizen in a supposedly free country.
And by the way - the timing of this bill going to Congress was also
contrived - it was on the last day of a closing congress - in the middle
of the night. something THAT significant was so much manipulated!
Do you still feel it's a "free" country?

S3546 was the first step in the FDA fully controlling and regulating all
supplements. Well it's in place and nobody asked YOUR opinion as a
citizen in a supposedly free country.
And by the way - the timing of this bill going to Congress was also
contrived - it was on the last day of a closing congress - in the middle
of the night. something THAT significant was so much manipulated!
Do you still feel it's a "free" country?

That's pure fiction sorry to say. There's nothing free about USA.
And more freedoms evaporate daily.

Some parts of the country have more "freedoms" than others, and some
circumstances are more likely to run into problems. Depends where you
are, what you're trying to do, and who happens to notice!

Kathleen,
I dont like to be sounding hostile, but your personal sense of freedom is
one that
is very narrow. You may enjoy your new almond trees but what about the
millions who cant plant almond trees. And what are you going to do when you
need mega vitamin C for some major inflammatory condition and all you can
get
is 15 or 30 mg? Are you going to plant your own Vitamin C
I find your position to be reflective a major problem today with most
people--
individualism: the belief that one is the center of the universe and alone
to solve
their problems. Our societal problems are not individual and will not be
solved
in an individual manner. One may isolate themselves for a time and pretend
that
their life is under control, but that is all that it is, an illusion.
While I wouldn't
criticize your personla life style choices, I would say that you can't
project them
onto the entire culture when we are faced with such an assault by people who
hate the constitution and think this needs to become a theocracy with
patentable
control over all life forms.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but this is the mildest language I can muster in
the face
of the attack on women's right to chose by a reactionary, catholic supreme
court doing the bidding of the Vatican who threatened excommunication if
they
didn't (this from commentary by Bill Baird) and a Congress that keeps
revoting
until they get the corporate vote that they want to undo the DSHEA regs
which
were to secure our entitlement to free choice about health issues--at least
some of
them.
It serves fascism well if the public lives with the delusion that they are
free.

Tanya, not everything is a persecution against you. I signed the petitions
and I volunteer for many speaking events but I will not say the USA is not a
free country. Have you looked at the news, I am not stepping on a mine
going to the store. I am happy to live in the USA and I am very, very
grateful it is a "free" country.
Yes it needs work and I can bet I am doing as much as you. I sent out 1500
newsletters asking for people to leave comments this week and I planted 2
trees. What are you doing about it, it all starts with one person remember.
People should not sit around and complain about the USA and do nothing about
it. When all you do is focus on the negative very seldom does anything
positive happen. Our mental/emotional state has everything to do with
healing and being healed.
I am an individual and it starts with me, I feel that your(your way of
thinking) the problem and feel everything has to be done by the masses so
nothing gets done. I certainly would plant more vitamin C containing
vegetables and fruit but personally I would use something other than massive
doses of anything.
I am not trying to be hostile either, just the opposite. I have my opinion
and obviously yours is very different and that is what a free country is all
about. We as people need to concentrate on who we elect if we really want
change. Kathy

Kathleen,
I think it quite telling that you accuse me of paranoia. It informs
me of the level of awareness that is lacking on your part. And how
would you know what I do or don't do,much less whether I am negative
or not. Well, I am very negative about the state of this country and
the state of the world. I do not trust this country and its propaganda
at all. And I do many things in my life to participate in staving off
the final tyranny which is fast encroaching upon us.
I don't know how you can continue to believe in your 'free' world when
we have just lost the protection of habeas corpus. Or a vote in Congress
can be redone over and over until it produces the desired effects of the
most totalitarian elements of this society. So far, no one cares whether
you isolate on a mountain top and plant almond trees, but what will you do
when they begin to care?
I will leave you with words of a few thoughtful folk that have significant
experience:
Unless you become more watchful in your States and check this spirit of monopoly and thirst for exclusive privileges, you will in the end find that the most important powers of Government have been given or bartered away, and the control of your dearest interests have been passed into the hands of these corporations: Andrew Jackson, farewell address, 04 March 1837
"What no one seemed to notice. . . was the ever widening gap. . .between the government and the people. . . And it became always wider. . . the whole process of its coming into being, was above all diverting, it provided an excuse not to think for people who did not want to think anyway . . . (it) gave us some dreadful, fundamental things to think about . . .and kept us so busy with continuous changes and 'crises' and so fascinated . . . by the machinations of the 'national enemies,' without and within, that we had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing, little by little, all around us. . .
From Milton Mayer, They Thought They Were Free, The Germans, 1938-45 (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1955)
They could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they never fully grasped the enormity of what was demanded of them, and were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice what was happening : George Orwell
"Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner." -- James Bovard - 1994 Source: Lost Rights. The Destruction of American Liberty (St. Martin's Press: New York, 1994), p. 333
"It bothers me that the executive branch is taking the amazing position that just on the president's say-so, any American citizen can be picked up, not just in Afghanistan, but at O'Hare Airport or on the streets of any city in this country, and locked up without access to a lawyer or court just because the government says he's connected somehow with the Taliban or Al Qaeda. That's not the American way. It's not the constitutional way.": Laurence Tribe - Carl M. We are confronted with the necessity of a battle which must be continued until it has been won. That choice has already been made for us, and we have no option to simply wish it away. Malcolm X

Tanya,
What is the bill that was pushed thru at 3 a.m.--was that the one that
the petition dealt with, or something earlier? Where did you find out
about those details?

Re: [hpe] Urgent: FDA Guidance for CAM Products and Regulations
Shannon,
Rima Laibow had put out several weeks ago that there were 4 bills in
Congress
designed to gut the DSHEA regs plus several in state legislatures,
including 4
in NYS. Irene de Villers wrote a few days ago about the vote. Following is
from her post:
When I tried to find out more information prior to the vote, I could not.
Perhaps because I did not have the bill number or name. But I am
sure, now that the Dems have left the chamber, all will be available.
