It isn't a question of working backwards but in conjunction with and you'll never arrive at the simillimum if the choice of rubrics is incorrect or the emphasis placed on the case is off target. Our materia medicas are far more important than the reps (imo) and it is our duty to know and understand our remedies and not take a 'face value' repertoristation as other than that - this is why ranking carefully selected rubrics is so important and that considering ALL rx that appear in a leading rubric to be worthy of consideration for the simillimum.

"Using the basics" seems simple enough but even they have to be correct.

Although you have placed great emphasis on the kidneys in these cases, when someone (animal or human) has been poisoned the action of the toxicity will not just end with one organ, it is likely to spread throughout the whole body, especially when there is evidence of ulceration and haemorrhage as well, and as you have no sensations, extensions or modalities in these cases one is almost confined to generals but very important generals (with a view to what else could also be going on). Poison, ulcerations, haemorrhages, big affinity to kidneys (although the latter is no more higher ranking than the whole of the rest of the case) and this is all you have as reliable sx - very important general sx.

What also hasn't been mentioned (I don't think?) is the timeline involved. Poisons go one of 2 routes - they are either rapid in action or more insidious but nonetheless just as lethal - the insidious nature is often due to dosage. Rapid poisons often have a manic phase such as you might see in the Belladonna family or more drawn out as in heavy metals for example.

These cases although still within the emergency timeline appear to be more insidious, more drawn out and this really does make me think about the heavy metals. I keep thinking about the polonium poisoning of Litvinyenko and I've already mentioned Ars and Phos (as polycrests) and more interestingly Iridium but I am wondering also about the Uraniums, especially Uran nit. The fact that aminopterin is used as a cancer drug encourages me even more towards this rx - that covers the important generals of poison, ulceration, haemorrhage and initial affinity to the kidneys but with terrible ongoing decay if the applicable disease states were left to their own devices.

So it can be essential to be guided by the materia medicas, i.e. "working backwords" (although I would call it 'knowing our remedies as much as possible') and although I wouldn't encourage my students to work in this way, far from it, for me, after all these years it is the best way.

My problem was with trying to fit a remedy to the case (backwards), when
one needs to fit the case to the right remedy (forwards) - using all the
right techniques.
