Re: Candidasis
Do you have a copy of the Candida diet? Look on the web for one or I will
send one to you. Acidophilus is a must . Possibly Pau D'arco herbal tincture
and grapefruit seed extract. Naturally go constitutional.

Thanks Rochelle, might carry more weight in this situation from you., Dr Mercola's keffir fermented coconut sounds good too but not available here.. Miso tastes like vegimite may be acceptable. Someone a while ago mentioned Nat Phos in a 6c . The immune system is compromised with radiation and antibiotics. Thank you again Jean

Re: Candidasis
Drinking true kefir made at home from culture obtained from the Russian Caucuses (given me by a friend in the early 90s) cured me of candida overgrowth and attendant IBS-like symptoms before I knew about homeopathy. A couple of years ago it was possible to get real kefir culture from someone via the internet. I didn’t do it but read about it. I have not had the candida return. Lost my kefir culture a couple of years ago but have not tried to replace it because can do without it now. But it was a godsend back then!
There was a website kefir.com, or some such. Real kefir worked miracles for me. Of course, the same miracles can be had through homeopathy, but kefir is a whole lot simpler for candida. Teresa (Northern VA, USA)

I posted to Jean privately but thought others might be interested...
Consider mercury or other heavy metal toxicity as root. (In some cases, generalities, mercury, abuse of will fit even though back then it was a different cause.) Other cases, it's over use of antibiotics, other medications, damaged immune system, etc.
I have found remedies not enough to eliminate candidiasis altogether. A quality probiotic is essential coupled with the Rx. Culturelle is a great place to start. Primal Defense, Probio Gold are other good quality ones. Acidophilous is useless. As much as 50% of yeast is resistant to acidophilous and those that aren't quickly adapt to acidophilous alone.
Yogurts sold today are not effective as they contain too much sugar particularly those made with high fructose corn syrup (just about all of them) which encourages the growth of bad bacteria and yeast. This only contributes to the problem by feeding the yeast and most of the "real" probiotics in the yogurt have been killed off with pasturization. Homemade, or plain with no sugar is acceptable but won't cure it.
The body's immune receptor cells are in the intestinal tract. With probiotics, it helps the cells increase healing.
ThreeLac powder works wonders as does GSE. If using GSE (Grapefruit Seed extract) go slow! Do not use what it says on the bottle. Start with 1-2 drops per day - work up to 5-6 or more over several weeks. Die off may occur.
It's important to rotate probiotics because the body will become resistant. Or once the body has adjusted to a regular regime of probiotics, double or triple up the dose every day for a week and then wait two to three weeks before dosing again. This will give the good bacteria a chance to thrive and knock down the bad bacteria and it is less likely to become resistent.
Yeast alone can cause stuffy nose, headache, sore throat, constipation, diarrhea, rashes, lethargy, flu-like feelings, and chronic fatigue. Die off will cause or worsen same. The simillimum will often cause yeast die off and additional symptoms.
Truly,
Erica

Re: Candidasis
I'd like to confirm your thought that something other than constitutional remedies are needed very often to totally get rid of the yeast overgrowth. One additional thing I've found helpful, in addition to the indicated remedy and the probiotics and grapefruit seed extract is the remedy (nosode) Monilia 30c -- in water, taken daily at a different time from the chronic remedy. I used 30c because that was the potency that the sources in which I'd found this remedy indicated it was effective. Offhand, I can't remember the sources, but I found it in EH, as a result of searching for candidiasis and then reading a couple of Materia Medica sources, in which the symptoms of the patient were fairly well represented. It's a remedy that's been around for a while, and it's represented in the repertories as well.

Thank you so much Rosemary and Erica.. I got a probiotic [from a frig ] yesterday with 8 different strains and am easily absorbed Vit C [buffered] Your support of this will assist in compliance. Thank you. The Mono 30c sounds worthwhile. Patient got radium necrosis of mandible and then infection and was on antibiotics for months. Glad of the back up of Nat Phos.
Best Wishes, Jean

Re: Candidasis
I agree with all that has been said about this – something like grapefruit seed extract to start with, yeast and sugar free diet and then probiotics – and, with this protocol in conjunction with remedies, have always been pretty successful with the condition. Recently, though, I have been wondering if pre-biotics would be better than pro in that they nurture the development of the patient’s own inhabitants. There was a tv programme recently which demonstrated that the results in terms of bowel flora quantities were much better with pre than pro and, also, I am actually beginning to question the wisdom of putting a load of random bacteria that come from heaven knows where into the system. It’s not a practice that holistic practitioners would condone in any other context. Any thoughts/experience of this, anyone?

Hi Theresa,
With with all the "hygiene" and sterilization and etc., most people
don't *have* the sort of "inhabitants" that we've evolved with...
Interesting! Do you recall what prebiotic was used?
Well, the bacteria are not any more "random" than, say, any food
supply. There are different formulas--some just acidophilus and/or
bifida, and others containing up to a couple dozen additional strains!
I don't know specific details, but years ago worked with a chiro who
was very into probiotics, and talked lyrically about how this strain
performed that function, and etc. I use one of the multi-strain
varieties "as-needed" (mostly if stomach upset, or ate something I
shouldn't have, or coming down with something) and seem to find them
very effective--more so than the plain acidophilus that I used to use.
Supposedly some of them are "soil bacteria", that in a more innocent
age one would have been eating daily along with munchies from one's
garden, etc.

Re: Candidasis
Hi Shannon,
This is the url (if that is the correct term) for the pre/ pro biotic experiment: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/humanbody/truth ... tics.shtml
The key pre biotic was inulin, found in dandelion leaves, Jerusalem artichokes, chicory, bananas, garlic, onions and leeks, and was administered through eating those things..” the prebiotic group managed to increase their good bacteria numbers by 133 million, small in bacteria terms, but an encouraging effect. The probiotic group saw little change over the week, but over a longer period there’s evidence that they can make a difference”.
I am not sure about most people no longer having their indigenous bacteria, if that is what you are saying; after all, if hygiene and anti-biotics were totally destructive of bacteria we would be 90% dead, which I guess means we would be 100% dead!!
However, I too have recommended probiotics over the years and know that they can be effective.
On the subject of soil bacteria I came across an interesting fact the other day: apparently there are some people in Turkey ( I think it was) who appear to have no dietary source of folic acid but manage well without it. Eventually the researchers deduced that because they fertilised their veg with their own excrement and didn’t wash the veg thoroughly, they were getting enough re-cycled.
