I have had a new patient in today with what sounds like hay fever from October to March. I reckon it must be an allergy and wondered if anyone had come across anything similar.

I see plenty of winter allergies - usually the trigger seems to be poor air quality in the home - but I have seen a few cases of the office air quality being a problem. Very frequently simply using HEPA air filter in bedroom, neti pot at night, and changing pillow cases every day works wonders. Also I see lots of mold and mildew allergies in the winter - again due to poor air circulation in winter. I think it is a combination of stress, poor hygiene, poor nutrition, etc. setting the stage, and aggrivations of environmental toxins (mold, mildew, pet dander, cleaning chemicals, perfumes, poorly maintained furnace units, etc etc etc).

Thanks for that. This has been happening for the last 5 years but needless to say I forgot to ask what has changed 5 years ago!! Stress is a problem for her - more a grief than stress. She has also noticed that a glass of wine, red or white will start the symptoms off but cheap Cava does not. The sensation is tired, running on a low battery, having to close her eyes from exhaustion and having to have a lie down at 2-3pm. The persistent sneezing, runny clear discharge from the nose is < morning and night.
There is a lot in this case which I am just about to start writing up but the above was her main Sx. She gets headaches which last 3-4 days in her eyes or at the back of her head. A SRP is that the sides of her tongue can become sore as if there are ulcers and it hurts to speak.
She also can "seize up" on her right side which is very sore.This happens in a stressful situations and affects her neck, shoulder and arm. It first happened when she went to see her brother who was dying from AIDS 6 years ago. She still has a lot of grief from her brother's death. The seizing up as she calls it happened again 4 years ago but she can't recall the circumstances.
The other thing is that she kept going into tears when recalling a situation last week when she was in a classroom (as a visiting lecturer) and the teacher kept shouting at the pupils. "I felt assaulted myself". She realised that this stemmed back to her parents fighting and her father shouting. She would try to turn her father away at the door to stop the shouting.
"When someone has a shouting match I have a vision in my head of retreating into a tiny box of black space."
Oh well - its another one of my complicated cases!! She has come to me because I sorted her 13 yr old daughter out after she had mono (glandular fever).
