and SWAT teams....
A prominent Florida homeopathic practitioner and ardent health freedom
supporter sent the following:
"This past year has seen an increase of arrests in Florida of
unlicensed practitioners. Two homeopaths have been arrested in South
Florida this year: one in January (Miami) and one in August (Delray
Beach). A swat team stormed the house of the homeopath arrested in
August. Of three of the arrests of unlicensed practitioners that I
know about each had different 'complaint situations.' The common
denominator seems to be that a complaint was made and the practitioner
was arrested. I do not know if any investigations took place. All
received multiple charges including 'practicing medicine without a
license' as well as 'cease and desist' orders. All incurred and
continue to incur huge legal fees."
"The homeopaths arrested do not appear to be certified/registered or
listed with any of the main homeopathic organizations. There are a
tremendous number of unlicensed homeopaths working or semi-working in
Florida 'under the radar' - some are not charging (they have husbands
who are the breadwinners), some are working out of doctors' offices,
some are resident out of state, etc. One of the homeopaths arrested
was working out of a doctor's office (a DOM) and he was arrested as
well."
"Looking through the Florida Department of Health's reports and press
releases it seems that:
1. Their Unlicensed Activity Division has increased its activities.
2. There is pressure from the licensed professions to 'clean up' the
state.
3. Practitioners of 'low to no risk' therapies like reiki and
homeopathy, etc. are being swept up with the South American 'doctors'
practicing plastic surgery out of their bathrooms."
The 'intimidation techniques' of the DOH are working. This Florida
homeopath has closed her practice. The result will be dire for at
least some of the alternative health care modalities and consumers'
abilities to choose competent practitioners in their chosen modality.
