Money(greed), Power(craving) and Ego(I or we are right and you are
wrong, I am great and you are not) are the motivators not just in
allopathy, US government - they are in control everywhere-
homeopathy, all nations, all groups are run by that....
it is rare indeed you find anyone not motivated by these-

Greed, power and ego are very "survival-based"--the person is
identified with the "small I", personality and material trappings; and
so if those things are challenged--e.g. don't get to lead every event,
not always seen as "the best", don't get all the kowtowing--they can
feel threatened in a very primal way.
Anyway, a person who doesn't *need* the (praise/power/money) may be
more prone to getting pulled away by other needs--second-guessing,
stepping aside, getting distracted, deciding to focus on other
priorities,etc.

I don't think that *most* people are motivated this way, it's just that
they are more apt to be the "squeaking wheels", or in charge, or in the
spotlight somehow.

And I think that is very much one of the challenges of "our
times"--that people of more, um, maybe altruistic or some such,
motivations (which *I* think is actually a large proportion of many
populations) need to realize what's happening, what's needed, and how
to step outside of their comfort zones and take charge where needed.
For people who seek power, "taking charge" *is* the comfort zone, and
the trick (important trick, since I would guess that most governments
have a large number of the power/money/ego seekers) is to persuade
those people that their own needs are *aligned* with the broader needs,
and that their best way to fame/power/wealth is through becoming known
as someone who is promoting and protecting "the needs of the many".
(E.g. such that politicians protect the needs of the weak even tho it
doesn't pay as well in the short run; and larger or stronger countries
protect the needs of the smaller or weaker ones.) We seem to be making
*some* progress in that area in our own (US) government; but will it be
enough, we'll see...
