ringworm?

Why is ringworm under "Eruptions, herpetic", when it is a fungus? What
does that have to do with "herpetic"?

Herpetic eruptions are those that pertain or resemble Herpes.
There are at leas 20 descriptions of different eruptions with Herpes as the first descriptor, but
they are not all caused by the Herpes viruses that produce zoster and simplex.

Herpes actually means "a spreading cutaneous eruption, from herpein = to creep" so, it was used to
describe many different eruptions.

Herpes circinatus --- is Tinea circinata --- Ringworm
Herpetiform also means having a likeness to a herpes type eruption
There is even one called Herpes Sore-throat, which refers in those days to Tonsilitis.
Interestingly, Herpetology was the name for the science of skin-diseases, especially those of an
herpetic nature.
