Hahnemann warns against the use of caffeine because it produces a drug
disease and it antidotes remedies. Are there any other considerations
and have other homeopaths found his warnings to be true? From my
personal experience and observations I have found those warnings to be
true. Paul Autrey
Caffeine Use
Caffeine Use
I've found this sometimes true and sometimes not, it's very individual. I "allow" patients the occasional cup of coffee and take them off it if it seems to be interfering with treatment, but I know others are much more stringent. In general I prefer patients to have the occasional cup of really good coffee as a treat than to fill themselves up on endless cups of decaf which I think is probably worse than the real thing.
I have used coffee several times to antidote a remedy, with varying results.

Re: Caffeine Use
Apparently it is not the caffeine that can cause the remedy interaction
problem, but something else in the coffee--present also in
decaffeinated coffee, but teas (which may also contain caffeine) do not
cause the same trouble.
Observation has been that some people will be reliably antidoted by
caffeine, and others not at all. I was taught that the remedy with the
highest likelihood of being knocked out by coffee is nux-v, for which
the likelihood is about 50%. (Or, to put this a more technically
correct way--a patient needing nux-v is one most likely to have the
vital force disturbed by coffee in such a way as to cause the remedy to
stop working, and this may happen in about 50% of nux-v patients.)
Some people have responses to other substances, such that those
substances cause the remedy to stop working. E.g. one person
discovered that every time she worked with the lavender in her garden,
her remedy stopped working, tho lavender is not a problem for most
people.
OTOH I recall someone telling us that in some other countries (I think
Argentina was the example given?) almost everyone drinks lots of good,
strong coffee daily, yet homeopaths are still able to treat
effectively. (I wonder whether that includes their nux-v patients? No
doubt *some* do need to refrain??)
Best,
Shannon

Re: Caffeine Use
NASA did some experiments with spiders and drugs and caffeine. On Marijuana
the spider performed well just leaving out the 11 portion of the web. On
caffeine it couldn't remember how to build a web.

Re: Caffeine Use
Aspirin is poison for cats. Chocolate is poison for dogs.
So whatever caffeine may do to a spider does not seem to mean much.
The effects of substances on people and animals are in many instances
not comparable. This is one reason why experiments on animals for
testimony that the drugs are safe has always been nonsense.

Not nonsense, just semi-sense.
