Lichen Planus

Have just had a case present with Lichen Planus of the mouth.
Haven't done my homework yet (nothing was standing out during the consultation).
Anyone had any experience to share?

Case of Lichen planus of the mouth with a dry cough in Nov 2005. Cleared
with Ant-c. 200 in water sipped 3 times a day in 1 month. Cough was reduced.
In Mar 2006 early stage rt breast cancer detected ( left breast optd feb
1990) and operated. Cough stopped after operation and radiotherapy.
Presently chemotherapy 2 cycles out of 6 completed. Simultaneous
treatment under Dr AU R. split dose method.

I too have had a case of Lichen planus and don't have the file handy, however I do remember this

My client had evidence of the condition only in the mouth and the vagina --- both places 'hidden'
from society, which interestingly fit with her way of handling big upsets of which she had a couple
of big ones. More than anything, what bothered the client most was that the clitoris and the vaginal
opening was being encroached and intercourse was becomeing very difficult -- an a resultant loss of
pleasure. This was her presenting main upset from having this condition.
There were many many emotional symptoms that arose from incidences prior to the onset, as well as
the effects of the condition on her physical intimacy with her husband.

I was looking forward to choosing a remedy --- as there were so many rich symptoms espec. emotional
ones that could be used to assist in finding the simillimum.

However, I decided for her particular situation that she needed some dietary intervention first, and
put her on a gentle detox program, plus added oils etc..... that were indicated ---- and prescribed
Thios 30, one dose to be taken every 5 days, until her next visit.

I also, during this first session did some usual psychotherapeutic work on the distressing emotional
aspects.
I saw her again 3 weeks later, with the plan to choose a rem --- however, her symptoms of Lichen
planus were no longer there and she felt great and was happy to leave it at that.

I did not hear from her for another year, when she made an appointment with her husband regarding a
distressing situation they found themselves in, and discovered, that the Lichen planus had not
returned.

Can't find any useful mentals for this case or causation.
I'm not sure how what words to use for repertorisation of the mouth. He has
been using a steroid cream, so not much eveidence of what it looked like
before.

I would assume one would use a low potency in such a case. Am I right?

I do know that I did alot of research when I got this case, and have looked
up the file now and found it all.

I presume you would have found the rubrics in RADAR --- and even though most
of the rubrics are to do with the SKIN, they may still be relevant to the
mucous membrane involvement --- sphere of action of rems will help here.

Other rems from clinical perspective are Ars 200 and Hep sulph 200, which
are common muc.memb. rems

Here are some common mouth symptoms

Mouth lesions
Tender or painful (mild cases may have no discomfort)
Located on the sides of the tongue or the inside of the cheek
Occasionally located on the gums
Poorly defined area of blue-white spots or "pimples"
Linear lesions forming a lacy-appearing network of lesions
Gradual increase in size of affected area
Lesions occasionally erode to form painful ulcers

Look for history of exposure to certain known triggers --- and emotional
stress also

also, at the time, I found a site of Dr. Rajeesh Shah devoted to this
condition --- there are some good images which may help you --- and he
offers treatment after evaluating ones chances.

I guess, if you don't have enough symptoms that lead to a clear prescription
for the problem, you will have to find something in the history that will
lead you to a remedy --- keeping in mind the rems mentioned in reps that are
relevant OR you may have to consider using clinical evidence to help choose
a rem --- eg., Ant crud 200 has been successful for Banerji in some cases
where the lesions are not ulcerated, and Ant crud 6 where there is
ulceration. But this is only one tiny bit of clinical evidence
unfortunately. Sometimes the alternation of Ars 200 and Ant crud 6 is used
for the ulcerated type.

I had a few interesting aspects to my case that I would have taken into
account if I had had to in prescribing other than the Thios. --- my client
had a history of an hydatid cyst --- and in my research I found that someone
had linked Hep C virus leading to chronic liver disease as being linked to
various extrahepatic manifestations, one of which turns out to be lichen
planus.

I thought of the possibility that damage to the liver from the hydatid cyst,
may have also predisposed her to developing the lichen planus --- and I
remember that it was liver support that was my first line of treatment
before choosing a rem.

Even though Thios is not mentioned in any of the rubrics, I chose it because
of the effect on her genitals, which was causing her alot of distress.

I don't know if it was the liver support, psychotherapy, the diet, or the
Thios or a combination of all that led to its demise ---- I do suspect that
the liver and the emotional problems were mostly behind her particular case.
There was no evidence of exposur to the chemicals and drugs listed as being
implicated.

Sorry if this is disjointed, as have done it in dribs and drabs.

Oh, I missed most of the show on Hom. last night --- what was it about in
the end?

Thank you so much for all that info.

The ABC show was, in part, about Gould's Homeopathic Pharmacy in Tasmania &
all the stock, bottles, herbs, remedies etc. that have remained untouched
for over 20 years in a room out back. Pristine remedy boxes with all the
remedies, books, detailed prescription books etc.

As a small time collector of other things, it was a real feast.
