mechanism of isopathic/homeopathic treatment of ICE burns?

Post by VR VR »

How would the mechanism work in cases of a burn from ice? A patient recently "burned" her tongue on an ice cube.

A burn from ice, frostbite, is also direct destruction of tissue by extreme
cold and vasoconstriction.
Causing vasodilatation with local warmth would help, although the law of
similar would say "apply cold", but in this case, IMO, it goes against
physiology.

warm drinks seemed to make it worse, so I suggested a slightly warmer ice cube, which seemed to help somewhat... all very strange...

The "folk remedy" for frostbite is to dip the hands in snow... More
modern advise says nix the snow, but begin with cold water, and warm it
very gradually. Seems sort of similar?

Frostbite differs from heat burn inasmuch as the basic lesion is formation
of ice crystals into the cells with either rupture of cell membranes (=death
of the cell) or freezing of the enzymes and cytoplasm (= suspended animation
near death).
Applying cold, but less than the original one (same as applying heat but not
burning in case of fire damage) allows the rest of the cytoplasm to slowly
unfreeze" whatever is in "suspended animation" instead of violently mixing
with the frozen bits, causing them to break down in a sudden thaw, so
ensuring survival.
It is then that rewarming should start to ensure provision of oxygen and
nutrients and waste drainage.
Homeopathy always meets physiology........

A very sensible explanation--thanks!
