Thanks for all the thoughts and discussion about how to use arnica 1m
for surgery recovery. Mom came through the surgery fine and is doing
well.
The arnica did not seem to help with the pain. Of course I was trying
it in the hospital and in the first 8-10 hours after surgery. But
there was no noticable impact on her pain. So after several dry doses
and two in her water cup I put the arnica away. She is now getting by
with rest and ice, and is using staphophyum (or something) to speed
healing.
I have William Boericke's materia medica and repertory, but am a home
prescriber and new to much of this. I try to use the repertory but am
overwhelmed by options and terms I don't quite know.
How would I seperate true symptoms from side effects of the hospital
administered drugs? (sleepy from trauma or side effect?)
How do I repertorize bone pain (fracture/surgery), better from rest
and ice, patient is cold, desires sips of cold drinks, or warm herbal
tea, is tired/exhausted, but restless and won't stay in bed, pallor
(white female) is greyish green?
How do you decide which symptoms are treatable and which are just the
natural course of the disease/problem?
Are there homeopathics for counteracting a bad drug reaction?
(Hospital gave morphine and she immediately felt worse, almost blacked
out turned even greener, etc)
Yes I know standard advice is to see a real, qualified homeopath, and
no for us that is not an option right now. thanks!

Re: Arnica 1M - part 2
Phosphorus 30 is used for problems from anaesthesia but your mum probably doesn't need that now. As soon as you are sure the bones have been set correctly (from a x-ray in a week or so's time) then start the Symphytum as we suggested. (I give 6c three times a day). You can start on the Calc Phos Tissue(cell) salt as soon as you like as that may help with the pain.

Doesn't this present a problem though - suggesting specifics to
beginners without getting them to take the case properly. It could end
up just being a therapy using potentised rx but not actually
homeopathy. A broken bone and its affects can lead towards a great many
rx. When I broke my ankle not so long ago 2 doses of Bryonia were all I
needed. The fact that this case is >>> ice might suggest Ledum.
There are no short cuts Zana, you really have to learn to take the
case. Buy more books, buy and read the Organon, sign up for courses,
check out Sheri's courses on this list, read everything David Little
has to say, and many others but the reality is you have to learn so
much more before you start prescribing. Your mum deserves the best
homeopathic treatment

de Ther., January 15, 1889, in the Homoeopathic Recorder, July, 1889, Vol.
IV, No. 4, page 162.
Dr. Terzakeriant made a physiological and therapeutic study of this drug
in the Hospital Cochin laboratory under the direction of Dujardin-Beaumetz.
Besides morphine he found a considerable quantity of a base, probably a
glucoside; experiments upon animals showed it to act more powerfully than
morphine. Given subcutaneouly, per os and intravenously [6 g. per kilog. of
animal into stomach 2.50 g. per kilog. subcutaneously], it caused general
weakness; torpor, acceleration of respiratory movements, complete paralysis
of the limbs, a paralysis always preceding an anaesthesia and in all cases
persisted a very long time after return of sensibility, slowing of the
circulation, and temperature elevated 1.5 degrees [in two rabbits] after
introduction of remedy, then returning to the normal. This is due to
different preparations, as in two other rabbits temperature fell 0.7 degrees
[and the first were experimented upon by the alcoholic extract [containing
resin] and the last two the extract with no resin contained therein].

de Ther., January 15, 1889, in the Homoeopathic Recorder, July, 1889, Vol.

Thank you for this information. I really appreciate you taking the
time to lay it all out for me. Seeing how to use the repertory helps
me learn.
