How to use Arnica 1M ?

My mom broke her arm and is scheduled for surgery in the morning. All
she had in the house was arnica 30x but has been useing that along with
regular pain meds. I wanted to get arnica 200c for before and after the
surgery, but the healthfood store only had 1M. Can you give me a quicky
lesson on how to use it? I am most familiar with the 30c potencies of
remedies.

She is best to stick to the 30C before and after surgery. If she has been using 30x on a regular basis do not give any more Arnica before surgery. What surgery is it as anther Rx maybe better indicated?

In non-homoeopathic preparations - as a poultice - comfrey is THE BEST
against fractures and such.

((( Just to add for Sam -- AFTER the fracture is set (e.g. after the
surgery), symphytum is one of the best acute rx for rapid bone healing, as
Arista opines.

However, Symphytum is strongly CONTRAINDICATED BEFORE the fracture is
reduced, set, and verified in proper alignment. Homeopathic symphytum will
typically cause the development of a callus faster than expected. Before
the bones are aligned, this can cause complications, the worst of which
(after a shorter-than-expected period of time) is need to rebreak the bone
and realign it.

Once the bone is definitely set (everything is where it's supposed to
be), then symphytum is good. But don't give it *until* you are sure
the bones are in the right place. You don't want the bones to heal
wrongly, and need to be re-broken for proper setting! (I don't know
whether the same caution applies to the herbal poultice.)

If she needs her pain meds too, then either remedy or potency is not
correct! I would consider 30x (too?) low for severe pain (at any rate
30c has not been effect in my house for severe trauma, and sometimes
200c has not been sufficient either, but so far 1M has been. I've
never tried using e.g. 6c in water for it, tho. I wonder if that would
work any better than 30? Just wondering...) I don't know about
*before* surgery, but I wouldn't hesitate to have her use 1M as needed
*after* the surgery. And in my experience if the pain is not relieved
within about five minutes, then the remedy probably needs to be
changed.

Sorry I did not notice the first sentence about the arm break when I asked what surgery your mum was having!!! Yes Symphytum is the one to use AFTER x-rays have confirmed that the bone is setting in the correct place. I give Symphytum 6 three times a day for 2 -3 weeks and the fracture mends so much faster than the surgeons expect . With that I give Calc Phos cell salts to strengthen the bone. This can be started before the Symphytum and also helps with the pain.

Sounds like there is some differnce of opinon on potency. I gave her
the arnica 30x for pain, swelling and trauma of the original break.
NOw that she is going in for surgery I wanted to have a more powerful
arnica for the new trauma and swelling. If we use the 1M I just
bought, can we go back to the 30X she has after the first day? I
recently read about different potencies of the same remedy acting as
antidotes, and am really confused.

I will ask her to consider Symp after surgery and bone is back in
place. I found an article by Dana Ulman called Flying through surgery
with Homeopathy (or something like that) it had some great after care
remedy suggestions. Her biggest concern after swelling/pain is that
she does not tolerate anestesia (sp?) or rx pain medicine well. She
has been on vicodine but is alergic to codine and getting headaches,
itchiness etc. Other similar meds make her vomit. Hoping that super
duper arnica will lessen or eliminate need for these. Any thoughts on
counteracting anestesia? Have ars. for nausea and vomiting on hand
and can get others if needed.

We saw surgeon today so here is what I understood - break is in the
top(wrist side) triangle part of the radius. Part broke and part
crumpled/collapsed. So surgery is to put bones back in proper place
then put plate over crumpled part to stablize it. She will have
stitches in her wrist area and need to wear a splint for at least 10+
days.

i ususally use 200c. i would recommend 200c before surgery and after.

fyi, if you give 1M and then 30x, it will take the impact of the highter
potency
down. this is a protocol to use when you have given a rx that is too
aggressive and causes an aggravation. if you then give the lower potency,
it takes the impact down, so i wouldn't recommend doing this as a
matter of course.

i have treated a number of broken bones. i usually find giving arnica 200c
to remove the trauma and initial shock and then following up with
symphytum30c
3x daily works really well. however, each person is unique and their sx need
to be looked and watched to ensure success.

i had a woman who broke her ankle. when i saw her the ankle was greately
swollen. i told her my recommended protocol of 30c arnica 2-3x for 1 day
and
then symph 30c daily for a week, which she did not do because
her md was saying something different. i saw her 6 months later. she was
in a wheelchair and swelling and pain had not gone down at all. then she
was
willing to try my recommendations. not trusting in her follow thru, i
forgot her.
we met at a dinner event several months later. she came up to me with a big
smile and gave me this bear hug saying look, look. well, i really had
forgotten
her situation and, although always happy for a smile and a hug, i was
mystified
for a moment. then she pointed to her ankles which were normal and out of
pain. apparently she finally decided to listen to a different approach and
found
that it worked.

It can increase the bleeding!
