infant growth

Somewhere I remember reading an excellent article or chapter in a
homeopathic book concerning the subject of 'failure to thrive' in an
infant. Have a concerned mother comming in tomorrow with 14 month old in
2nd percentile in all of the standard pediatric reference charts. Sounds
like there are lots of gastic concerns - for which all the standard medical
tests have already come back 'normal'. I look forward to taking the full
case, but keep remembering that I have seen an excellent discussion of this
topic, and would love to review it.

Any leads on reading for this topic would be most greatfully appreciated.

Dear Donna

As you say, you will need to take a full case. However, please be warned
that if this child is breast fed a different set of statistics apply.

What is important is when the baby teethed, talked and walked etc.

If the baby is not growing height wise, there may be a hormonal deficiency.

I would be interested to see the full case pls.

Thank you. No I don't think this is the one I had previously seen, but I would love to read it. Paul Herscu is an excellent communicator and I would love to read his approach/analysis on this topic.

You and Sheri bring up such a good point about the 'statistics'. I seldom consider them - what is far more important is how the parent perceives the growth and development. In this case, I think this poor mother has been put through the emotional wringer - and the poor child has been subjected to multiple invasive procedures producing no answers - just more worry. This is why it is so frustrating knowing I have seen a good discussion (book chapter, journal article, ???) on this topic - and not being able to find it. While nothing circumvents good basic case taking and analysis, any information that helps learn from the experience of others, could help this family.

I had a patient like this.She was about a year old when she first came to see me and mother was frantic because she was so petite. She was always getting infections- coughs and colds and didn't eat much. After a constitutional Rx - Phos in her case she stopped getting the infections and started eating more,started walking and talking more. I see her occasionally at the swimming pool . She is about 4 now and is still petite but fine!!

Hi Donna,
Reiterating Soroush's remark--*is* the baby "failing to thrive", or is
s/he just tiny... A friend had a teeny little baby for whom the (or at
least "an") issue turned out to be vitamin D deficiency; when she and
her mother started vit D supplements, she began to do better in every
way. (She was definitely having other problems besides being tiny, tho
I don't know much detail about it.)

Thank you for sharing your experience. Considering in your case the child had a history of infections and poor eating - did you find the child was fragile or frail or simply petite? I am curious how you selected the opening dosing based on the presentation in front of you at that time.

Thank you for your reply. I have no idea what the actual situation will be until I see them. From the description of previous testing - it has obviously been considered as a very serious condition.
