Oedema

Post by Theresa Partington »

Thanks, Jean. Apis does fit and is what the burns one is on at the moment -
hadn't seen the burns aetiology anywhere, though, which is why i wondered if
there was anything else.
I am also sure you are right about oedema delaying things but sometimes the
body's natural response can be protective, can't it? Why not in this case?
Theresa
Would think oedema delays healing, impairs blood supply and makes
tissues more prone to infection. Apis is one of the burns remedies
and may be useful if other things fit, FWIW, Jean

Sorry Theresa, apart from fact that oedema may urge the person to
protect and elevate the part do not know.
Others may be more cerebral. Best Wishes Jean

The body's natural response is protective, yet also can slow down the
healing process (think, for example, of the swelling and inflammation that
follow an accidental injury -- reducing the swelling with rest, elevation,
pressure, and Arnica :-)) speeds up the healing process.). The inflammation
and swelling sometimes in itself prolongs or increases the damage to tissues
(for instance, after a stroke or heart attack....)

It's actually a very interesting question, because the natural response,
designed to protect, also often becomes part of the larger problem. I think
the answer is probably in thinking in totalities, not single symptoms. For
instance, with a burn, finding a remedy to heal the tissue damage along with
the edema is a better idea than just reducing the edema -- and the remedy
wouldn't work anyway if it weren't addressing the totality.

I'll look forward to other more physiologically knowledgeable responses on
this issue -- I'm basically thinking with my fingers here....

Rosemary
