Re: sick cat
Hmmm
What is shou wu and would chinese herbalists carry it? or who? And calend and hyper for flea allergies?
this will be interesting to try.
You know, it is a strange thing that all 3 of my female cats had this horrible reaction to fleas to some extreme degree or another.
I often suspected it began with the 'fixing' of them which is basically a hysterectomy. This always said to me that their
hormonal system was off. What I thought strange is that this is not necessarily a common reaction for female
cats. So it raises a question about what happened with the vet who operated on all of them.
Sulphur is often used for flea reactions but it does not seem to have permanent benefit. I thinkit works on
healing the skin once infected.
Also aromatic oils and tea tree oil is ofter recommended, but not with homeopathy. And the cats may not
like the smell very much.
Thanks for the info

Pls note that you misread hypericum for hepar sulf and the single
herb is he shou wu. The hepar proved to be a very good purgative
and the calendula promoted the healing of the skin nicely. The
calend prved to be the more significant remedy. The herb he shou
wu nourishes kidney essence and liver blood and finds reflection in
the connective tissue; moisture in the skin; and lustred resilience
of the hair. The formula Immune + provides excellent uplifting of
the response of the vital force.
The herbs may be obtained from one of the distributors for Lotus
Herbs or from the company directly. If you are in the U.S. tell me
which region of the country and I will forward a number.

Hi Shannon:
I don't have time for a full response right now. However has he been tested for FIV and Felv by your vet? Young outdoor cats can get these viruses, especially males that might be fighting with other males. Also poisoning is a possibility. He could have eaten something bad. Nux vom might be a good place to start if poison is the possibility. Healthy normal cats don't drink unless they are eating dry food only. Outdoor cats are probably eating live prey, should not need to drink. Conium for ascending paralysis is good thought. Start treating him immediately and see how he responds.
For anemia Ferrum phos 6x three times a day might help too.
Start there. I'll look at the case more a little later. Best, Jill

Re: sick cat
I just want to give a big THANKYOU to everyone who offered input on my
latest sick cat! Sunny seems to be *much* better now (still leaning badly,
but much more chipper!). It seems that the folks who suggested "idiopathic
vestibular syndrome" were right, and he's now on the mend. Dunno whether
the remedies have helped, but the information has been *very* helpful (and
reassuring!!!).
Again, thanks!

Re: sick cat
It is the oddest thing Shannon, I saw on another list a cat with very
similar symptoms to the one your cat was experiencing and guess what, I got
up this morning to 50 degree temperatures (down 20 degrees from what it has
been in the morning for the past two months) and my youngest kitten is
staggering around like he's drunk. My memory was idiopathic vestibular
syndrome occurs commonly in the spring, but there must be something in the
air now.
I'm glad your kitty is better.

Re: sick cat
Dear All,
My 12 yr old short hair male has not been eating well.
He began to snub his food about 2 weeks ago, but was still eating.
Over time he is eating less and less.
He comes to his good, sniffs, takes a couple of bites and leaves.
The other unusual behavior is water. This cat would never drink
water out of a bowl. On occasions I would see him drink puddles
outdoors after a rain, but not often. Now he seems to seek out water
in the shower and behind the toilet as I sprung a leak the other day
and have not fixed it yet. If I give him a water bowl he won’t drink
out of it.
He won’t let me look into his mouth to see if there is any inflammation
that might hurt when he eats.
There is no spot on his body that makes him wince or react if touched.
He seems to urinate and pass stool okay.
Food is usually organic raw chicken altho I periodically vary this with some
Wellness canned food. Gave him some canned salmon the other week. He
will eat the canned food a bit better than the raw chicken which makes me
think his mouth hurts him But am also concerned with deeper organic issues
brewing.
I am concerned and am looking for some direction here. Would like
to talk with a communicator who is able to tune into health issues of cats.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Tamara,
When last did you get a blood panel done so you can see organ health of the organs?
I would get that including a differential count of blood cells.
The leading medical problem in non-wild cats is chronic kidney disease.
It is caused by a lifetime of inappropriate diet such as raw meat (other than fresh killed) which depletes their antioxidants, and fuit and vegetables (which cause alkaline damage to the kidneys and which are directly toxic, further depleting antioxidants) or other plant items like plant fat (which replaces the necessary fatty acids and arachidonic acid in aniimal fat).
The other kidney killer is plant protein but I do not see that here.
Kidneys start out with 75% overdesign but once they reach the 25% function mark, then there are sudden and persistent symptoms.
Some of those dietary errors affect the liver, but the kidneys usually go first especially in cats.
DO NOT let him skip meals, that can make cats go downhill very fast. If necessary assist feed him with all meat baby food mixed with equal parts water, with a pinch of taurine and a dab of ghee or butter - plus a fish oil and Vit E supplement - till you get a handle on what is amiss.
Skip the raw meat and the Wellness with its fruit and veg toxins.
Cook meat on the surface at least, to get rid of the problem bacteria and their adverse products there.
If you would not eat it raw, do not give it to your cat to eat raw!
Your cat needs his antioxidants.
I do suggest a blood panel. It is the fastest way to get a "good look" at what is going on internally.
Which is lined up with kidney function......
Try assist feeding by dropper. Baby food needs no teeth, he should eat it readily.
Humans with kidney damage often get kidney pain - it is rare to missing in cats.
Not sure what's in Wellness canned - I know they are one of the worst for cats in dry foood due to plant toxins.
But canned food is a mouth problem waiting to happen. It is too gooey.
So your mouth issue is also a possibility. Gingivitis or stomatitis are relatively common.
Best is to get a proper analysis of the problem at a vet clinic - blood tests and mouth inspection.
Then YOU decide what treatment is appropriate.
By the way vets think kidney damage is irreversible - not so. It's only irreversible if you follow what they want you to do to the damaged kidneys.
Hope it is not that but forwarned is forearmed.
Mouth issues can also be nasty in cats. Check for bad breath?
It's not easy or good to guess what is wrong with the cat.
I'd use the vet's inspection and lab test options for that much.
Namaste,
Irene

Re: sick cat
Irene,
I have never taken Tiny to a vet. When I got him the people
who had been feeding him had him fixed. I would bet that
person vaccinated him even tho I told these people I would
not take him if they allowed vaccination. They had a 13 yr
old golden retriever who suffered seizures from vaccinations
and even tho I demonstrated that relationship to them, they
probably let the vet they saw vaccinate this cat.
The Wellness canned food has no meal or by-products or
toxic additives or BPA in the cans. For a canned food it is not
bad and one of the few companies without a load of call backs.
It is not full of fruits and vegs.
He normally is outdoors and forages for much of his food, but
can be a scrounger. My neighbors ignore me and give him
kibble which causes conflict between us. So he eats fresh
killed often. I will on occasion see him minimally chew on certain grasses
when they growing in season. Should probably grow some wheat grass
indoors for him in winter.
I never give him dry food. We disagree on this.
He is eating but minimally. And as noted is going after water
which he never does which is what is most worrying. I do think about
kidney issues.
If I strike it rich, maybe will get a blood panel despite the stress of
going to a vet with him.
