I searched through MMP for "bad gonorrhea" but could find such
expression.
Fortunately in Lesser writings Hahnemann has very interesting article
on " Instruction for surgeons respecting venereal diseases, together
with a new mercurial preparation ". It is evident that Hahnemann calls
every discharge from urethra as "Gonorrhea". Let me look at the some
excerpt from Chronic disease and Lesser wrtings:
1- CD, Alumina :
- [Soreness in the perineum, during gonorrhoea (aft. 4 w.).] [Hb.].
- (Involuntary micturition, almost twenty times a day, only a little
being emitted at a time, with gonorrhoea) (aft. 4 w.). [Hb.].
- (Gonorrhoea over six weeks (aft. 14d.) with a severe and painful
swelling of the inguinal glands, cutting pain during micturition and
pain in the perinaeum, especially violent at the end of the second week;
the pain in the perinaeum is particularly severe while standing, rising
and sitting down.) [Hb.].

2-CD, Ph-ac:
- During micturition, burning, and then increased flow of the
gonorrhoea.

3-CD, sulph:
- Pain in the urethra, as from incipient gonorrhoea.

On the other hand it is evident that Hahnemann has mixed several veneral
diseases with each other. For example in Lesser wrinting he speaks about
Chancre, Bubo, genital wart and Chondylomata in treatment of veneral
diseases. In fact What I deduced from article in Lesser writings is that
: "Gonorrhea" is " Local" urethral discharge, Chancre as "Local"
genital
ulcer and syphilis when the disease affects all systems of the
organisms. It is also evident that Hanemann has mixed Condylomata lata
and Condylomata Acuminat with each other and also when speaking about
Bubo he has mixed LGV, Granuloma Inguinal and Chancroid.
In "GONORRHEA" of Hahnemann I can see N. Gonorrhea, Chlamidyla infection
and HSV and other venereal diseases with urethral discharge.
Let me look at following excerpt for Lesser writings:
All of them are from Instruction for surgeons respecting venereal
diseases, together with a new mercurial preparation:

A- Introduction:

6. The first infection gives rise only to independent local diseases or
idiopathic venereal local affections, gonorrhea and chancre; in their
essential character buboes and condylomata belong to these, yet as
regards the period of their occurrence, they constitute the transition
into the second infection, in which the absorption of the hitherto
merely local virus of the gonorrhoea, chancre and buboe into the general
fluids, produces a state of the system that only makes itself known by
local affections of another description, which may therefore be called
symptomatic venereal disease, and the individual or collective phenomena
of which are usually termed general venereal disease or syphilis.
7. Many experiments show that true gonorrhoeal matter when inoculated
produces chancre, and that matter from the latter gives rise to true
gonorrhoea, that consequently both of these affections apparently so
different arise from the same virus, which only exhibits different
phenomena according as it is applied to different surfaces. 1

Primary gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea 1 in the Male
12. Ordinarily not long, often immediately after connection with a
woman affected with venereal leucorrhoea, or who has in the vagina
venereal matter, the male experiences a notable, not unpleasant 2
itching in the orifice of the urethra, sometimes resembling a flea-bite,
accompanied by a not disagreeable sensation of heat in the genitals; a
kind of formication is felt in the testicles; the lips of the urethral
orifice become somewhat swollen. Every gonorrhoea is ushered in by this
irritation,-the first stage of the disease.

67. Physicians did not consider, and would not be taught by experience,
that, there being no specific for gonorrhoea, mercury could not possibly
be one, as long as this poison acts upon a moisture-secreting surface of
the body, such as the interior of the urethra is, where it causes, so to
speak, only a mechanical irritation, and on which consequently, seeing
that it lies as it were beyond the sphere of the circulation, the
anti-venereal specific cannot act. (Gonorrhoea is a merely local
disease.) 1

68. Some facts prove this superabundantly. A man that had just got rid
of chancres and a buboe by means of mercury, was infected anew and got
clap, which would not have been possible, if the gonorrhoeal irritation
could have been acted on through the circulation; for as long as the
juices are filled with this metal, there is no possibility of a
penetrating venereal infection, such as a chancre, occurring. During the
mercurial treatment, cured gonorrhoea has been known to break out again,
and to remain for a long time as secondary gonorrhoea.

Chancre
Chancre in general and especially that in males
257. The venereal infection is most readily communicated to surfaces of
the body that are destitute of epidermis; hence the much greater
frequency of gonorrhoea than all the other venereal symptoms. Next in
point of frequency are the affections that occur on parts of the body
provided with a delicate epidermis; in the latter case there occur
ulcers which are termed chancres. The thinner the epidermis the more
easily does the infection take place and the more does the chancre thus
produced extend.

269. In general the chancre appears later than the gonorrhoea from the
same infection (perhaps they often are primarily caused by the
gonorrhoeal discharge remaining on those parts), and its virus may
therefore be frequently removed by merely wiping the part or washing it
with lime-water; they also appear more rarely, for we may reckon that
gonorrhoeas occur four times as often as chancres. They occur more
rapidly on the prepuce; still more rapidly betwixt the junction of the
prepuce and glands, especially at the frenum; most slowly on the other
parts, probably because the epidermis is thicker.

Venereal warts and excrescences
340. Very little of a positive character has been written concerning
the nature of the condylomatous warts, and the place they should hold
among venereal affections is still so undetermined, that I must take
leave not to regard them as a symptom of syphilis, but to place them
among the idiopathic venereal affections.
341. They certainly never appear, like gonorrhoea and chancre,
immediately after local inoculation, but in this they resemble buboes;
but still the humour they exude possesses, like the pus of inguinal
buboes, the power of producing local infection, 1 a property that seems
only to belong to the idiopathic venereal symptoms.

Cure of venereal warts and excrescences

352. If we have convinced ourselves of the venereal nature of the
condylomata, from the above signs and from the history of the case, we
proceed to the treatment, which divides itself into external and
internal.
353. As a general rule, these excrescences must not be primarily
treated by local remedies, 1 for the same reason as I have given for
condemning the topical treatment of chancres. If, as we have every
reason to believe is the case, these excrescences be malignant
transformations of the chancre owing to local treatment, the
injudiciousness of such appliances will be more palpable, and the usual
bad effects of their employment afford ample corroboration of this
assertion.
354. We must consequently discard what made them from chancres into
condylomata-the irritating and styptic local remedies, and make use of a
judicious and internal administration of mercury, 2 unless which had
been neglected they had not degenerated into that condition; in a word,
in order to cure them radically, we must do what ought to have been done
long ago.
355. The administration of (soluble) mercury serviceable in this case,
and the rules for its employment, are the same as for the more remote
degree of syphilis (for they belong to the most obstinate local
affections), to which latter I refer the reader, in order to avoid
unnecessary repetition.
356. I may merely observe that a properly developed (and rather strong)
mercurial fever (§ 290) cures all true venereal warts and excrescences;
that is to say, they dry up and fall off whole or in fragments, or (but
this is rare) they put on a healthy suppurative process and ulcerate
away.
357. Those warts that do not fall off nor suppurate away, nor gradually
disappear by this internal destruction of the virus, are usually of a
horny character; at all events are innocuous and non-venereal.
358. If, notwithstanding, we wish to get rid of them, they may, like
all other non-venereal warts, according to circumstances, be removed by
tying them with a wax thread and gradually drawing it tighter, or they
may be burnt off with lunar caustic, or cut off with the scissors. Some
have also advised to apply onions boiled in oil until the warts become
soft, and then sprinkle over them powdered mezerium, whereby they are
changed into mucus, that may easily be scraped off.
359. But as it nevertheless sometimes happens (although very rarely in
the case of the non-venereal remains of formerly venereal excrescences)
that they again grow after removal by the ligature or scissors, we would
do well, immediately after their removal by these instruments, if we
observe any disposition on their part to grow again, to touch the part
once or twice with lunar caustic; except in such cases, when, in spite
of the radical destruction of the venereal miasm by the mercurial fever,
such a wart still remains inflamed and painful, in which very rare case
1 we must abstain from all topical applications, and content ourselves
with destroying the cancerous or scrofulous constitution of the humours
by hemlock, cold baths, opium, ammonia, setons in the neighborhood,
andc.

360. Peyrilhe recommended, in order to destroy the large spongy
excrescences in the vagina, to apply butter of antimony with great
caution, and immediately thereafter to cleanse with injections of
lime-water the parts where this easily spreading caustic may have
touched the healthy tissues. He prefers it to the lunar caustic, because
the slough formed by the latter does not fall off under 36 hours; which
would allow sufficient time to renew the excrescence beneath it. We may
act in a similar manner by excrescences on the male genitals. I would
not however advise any beginner in surgery to resort to this method. The
judicious internal employment of mercury must always precede it.
361. The rectal and perineal fistulae arising from condylomata, are
hardly ever benefitted by the ordinary employment of mercurials in the
shape of calomel, Neapoliian ointment, andc. The soluble mercury is, as
it generally is, more powerful in such cases, when all the morbid
irritability of the body, which is almost always present, is subdued
before its employment, and when at the same time topical fumigations
with cinnabar, andc., are not neglected.

I have read with care what you wrote below about genital warts because I
have a male patient with them and nothing constitutional is working. he has
also been applying Thuja tincture to them. Below H mentioned soluble
mercury. Have you any idea what this is??? Is it mercury in potency? His
warts have been removed by an allopathic doctor - probably frozen but did
regrow.

some of them do not respond to Merc and Hahneman calls them "innocuous
and non-venereal" and for treating them he suggests "...with a wax
thread and gradually drawing it tighter, or they may be burnt off with
lunar caustic, or cut off with the scissors...."" !!!
IMHO, these warts are due to HPV infections and you can try remedies
which Ardavan suggested for sycosis in his email. But the best way is
considering Location, Sensation, Modalities and Concomitants in your
case.

colloidal silver will usually make your warts disappear. It isnot an homeopathic approach but applying Thuja externally is neither.

Therefore in THIS quote Hahnemann is taking about a "bad kind of
gonorrhea" that is based on sycosis. He also say to treat it with Thuja.
When one looks in the Paris casebooks they find that Hahnemann is indeed
treating *bad kinds of gonorrhea with Thuja*.

Hahnemann also wrote in the Chronic Diseases:

"A youth cannot keep his sexual desires under control up to his marriage
unless he altogether avoids banquets. Gonorrhea and chancre are due to such
excess."

It is quite likely that Hahnemann is speaking about the same "kind of
bad gonorrhea" in this quote as he mentioned it with syphilis as serious
venereal diseases. I wonder what types of "banquets" he was taking about?
Yes, I am aware of this but you must remember that this is written in 1788
at the beginning of Hahnemann's career. This article represents the general
ideas of the day when all venereal disease were thought to be one. This can
not be used as an example his definitive ideas when he wrote the Organon
and the Chronic Diseases.
As I said, this was written in 1788 when Hahnemann was a young
allopathic doctor. You must look at these statement in that perspective.
The Chronic Diseases was written in 1828 (40 years later) and the Paris
casebooks conclude in 1843 (55 years later). Therefore, what Hahnemann
thought 1788 is different that what he thought 1840s! In 1788 he did not
even differentiate between sycosis and syphilis! You cannot use this
article as an example of what he thought as an elder homoeopath working in
Gay Pari (1835 -1843) where gonorrhea N and syphilis were popular venereal
diseases.

As to the rest I am aware of these writings.

Dear David ,

Thank you for your reply and explanation. I had a feeling Hahnemann was
talking about the material Mercury.

My patient has not had gonorrhoea or any other STD. We think he caught the
warts from his wife who is asymptomatic as she told me that he didn't have
them when they met but did have them before marriage!! He has not had sexual
relations with anyone else since he met his wife and nor has she. It is
interesting that both his son's born by IVF from his sperm have symptoms of
herpes. 1 has verrucas on his feet and the other Molluscum Contagium. The
whole family have come to me for treatment.
By constitutional remedy - Oh dear that word is a mine field- but I use it
to mean the remedy that covers the totality of the case at this moment of
time. The only other things that are significant about this man is sweaty
palms and sticky sperm and I only know about the sperm because his wife told
me!!
