materia medica info wanted

Post by michele & Peter Graham »

A question from a friend:
"any chance u can find any info on Syringa Vulgaris (or Syringe Vulgeris)?
Also known as common lilac, Scholten also suggested I take this one.
Thanks!"

Can anyone help? Andy?
Thanks,
Michele.

covered it in a seminar, but I have not the info. It is in his Minerals In
Plants 2 Book, where it is listed as being high in Indium. The following
snippet can be found here:
http://www.minimum.com/b.asp?a=minerals ... 2-scholten
and this may be relevant:

"Syringa vulgaris showed a very high content of Indium. The plant has shown
a strong feature of nostalgia (Proving and cases by Jan Scholten, not yet
published). Indium has a strong nostalgia."
Other than that below is what I have:

Eclectic info not too much here:

http://www.henriettesherbal.com/eclecti ... ringa.html
The Dispensatory of the United States of America.

edited by Joseph P. Remington, Horatio C. Wood and others, 1918.
Syringa. Syringa vulgaris L. Common Lilac. (Fam. Oleaceae.)‹The leaves and
fruit of this common garden plant have a bitter and somewhat acrid taste,
and
Petroz and Robinet found in the fruit a sweet and a bitter principle. The
latter was afterwards obtained pure by Meillet, who gave it the name of
lilacin, and by Bernays, who called it syringin. It has been investigated by
Kromayer (A. Pharm. (2), cxiii, 19), who established its glucosidal
character, gave it the formula C17H24O9 + H2O, and showed it identity with
the ligustrin of Polex. It forms long, white, stellate needles, which are
tasteless, easily soluble in hot water and alcohol, insoluble in ether. The
crystals become anhydrous at 115° C. (239° F.), and fuse at 212° C. (413.6°
F.).

especially when administered in the relapsing fevers of malaria.

On heating with dilute acids its breaks up into syringenin, C11H14O4, and a
fermentable glucose. The syringenin (which has been recognized as oxy methyl
coniferin) is a light, rose-red amorphous mass, soluble in alcohol,
insoluble in water and ether.

and

http://www.henriettesherbal.com/eclecti ... tml#rel-sp
Syringa vulgaris - Common lilac. A well-known shrub, the fruit and leaves of
which are bitterish and sub-acrid. Besides a sweet principle Petroz and
Robinet found a bitter glucosid (C19H28O10.H2O, Kromayer, 1863), the lilacin
of Meillet, and syringin of Bernays, and identical with the ligustrin of
Polex. This body, when pure, is not bitter, but tasteless (see Ligustrum
above). Dilute acids split it into sugar and syringenin (C13H18O5), an
amorphous, pale, rose-colored mass soluble in alcohol, but not in ether and
water.
