Using Homoeopathy in Volume Practice 1

Post by David Little »

Dear Minutus,

This was written in response to a statement by a person who said
classical Homoeopathy is only for the privileged and can't really be used
in a front-line clinic. Some of you have already seen this on that "other
list" but I thought for those who have not I would post it here.

Homeopathy is the medicine of the poor for a great number of Indians.
Many practitioners only charge a very small fee but manage to live because
they see so many patients. That is a fact. Homeopathy at the street level
is MUCH cheaper than allopathy or Aryurveda! That you say it is only a
medicine for elite in India only demonstrates your ignorance of the true
situation. There are homoeopath on all levels.

When I first came to India I studied with a Dr. Isaac who was the head
of a Homeopathic Hospital and Medical School. In the outpatient clinic he
saw around 100 patients a day with his nurses and then did his hospital
rounds! He was a classical homoeopath and did not use any remedies
recipes. I was amazed! All treatment was for free. He was the first to
show me what was possible with a small dedicated team. There a great number
of homeopaths working in India who do volume practice without using fix
recipes of remedies or combination medicines. I have treated 50+ people in
a day with a small team. I have two assistants who begin taking the details
and then I take over and do the prescribing. I have a compounder who makes
the medicines and gives the instructions. That is the team. Here is how it
works.

I have a long line of patients in front of me while I am sitting at the
table with a number of chairs around me. My assistants receive the patients
and start recording the cases. I lay out several cases on my desk at once
and begin to prescribe the easy one's first. Then I look at the more
difficult cases and may ask a few questions and then I prescribe as fast as
I can. The cases that take more time I make sit down next to me as I
continue to work the line in front of me. I continue to ask them questions
on the side while I am prescribing the other cases. Once I figure out what
remedy the person in the chairs needs I say "next" and have another sit
down. Actually, I am taking 3 or 4 cases at once! I take serious cases
first and may ask someone who is not suffering badly to come back the next
day if at the end of the day I am not done. All my work is for free.

That is how one can do classical homoeopath in the front-line clinic in
the 3rd world. Put together a small team of experienced prescribers with
nurses to start recording the cases and a compounder and we can do 100s in
a day. I am not the only one doing it. The only "short cut" we use is we
learn the redline keynote and grand characteristics of the most proven
remedies by heart and only use the repertory once in a while to look at few
differentials when needed. I don't do my best work under these extreme
conditions but I and others do good work.

Sincerely, David Little
